Glad I chose this hotel because it was close to a shopping mall and close to a museum I wanted to visit. Room was clean, bed was comfortable, everything worked as it should and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

As noted by others , unfortunately , a once, very majestic hotel ( is only 25yo ) is now very dated and in need of major refit. However , the rooms are large ,clean and the bed very comfortable ( if you like a firm bed ). Nothing else compatible for the location and price

Lovely staff and lobby and great location. Unfortunately the hotel rooms are in dire need of an update . Ours had a very old , musty smell also . Unfortunately would not return because of the aged , stained rooms .

Former glory days gone by. Urgent repairs needed.

The hotel has seen glorious days but today it is a sad reminder of how not to run an establishment. Everything need a complete redo, though the quality of the finishing is good, like marble masonry. And solid furniture. Carpets, curtains, fixtures and aircon are all outdated and breaking down. Hope they can renovate this place soon.

Merdeka was in a good location for the touristy spots. However, the staff didnā€™t really give the feel that they were happy to have us there. They did their job, but there werenā€™t a lot of smiles or helpful gestures of any kind. Beautiful lobby, but the rest of the building was very dated and in rough shapeā€¦great need of a makeover. Price was good, but in this case you kind of got what you paid for. The hotel restaurant and massage parlor were not bad. Over-all I had a rather ā€œmehā€ feeling, and would most likely opt for a different place if we come to Kuching again (which we will most likely do).
