castle area is superb even when it is still under renovation. nice places to eat. good getaway to Aso region

If you're spending some time in Shimotori, Sunroad Shinshigai Shopping Street and Shimotori Shopping Arcade are top sights worth seeing.
While you're in Higashi Ward, take in top sights like Kumamoto Zoo and Botanical Garden and jump on the metro at Zoological and Botanical Gardens Entrance Tram Stop to see more of the city.

Nice city, have many activities can do.
The Castle is worth seeing. If you have time Mt Aso is a must see.
Nice city to spend couple of day. They are still under the recovery of the earthquake. Many places still closed for a visitation. However, it was nice enough to stroll in the city, enjoy local food and Kumamon.
My time there was not the best because many highlight places were under reconstruction .
