"The room was relatively clean but there was no hand soap (the front desk told me that didn't have any), the phone in the room didn't work, the bed was creaky, and the walls (and ceiling) were very thin. I woke up to some very loud talking and music multiple times during my two-day stay, I thought it was the room beside us but the bulk of the loud music turned out to be the staff. The breakfast was scarce and sketchy (the eggs and sausage looked very questionable). The front desk staff weren't overly helpful but they were friendly. It was a budget-friendly price, but I will not be staying there again."
Holiday Inn Express Rochester - University Area by IHG
2/10 Terrible
"DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT! When you walk in, there is no reservation desk. The receptionist is sitting at a table which was very disheveled. The furniture in the "lobby" was shabby and dirty. While we stood at the desk, a sign on the wall informed me that the hotel is owned by an independent operator, not affiliated with Holiday Inn (I don't understand how they are able to use the brand name, which is deceiving). Anyway, after a brusk exchange with the receptionist, we rode the filthy elevator to our room. Upon entry we immediately noticed fingernail clippings, half chewed candies and dirt on the carpet and the beds appeared hastily made.
I tried to call the desk, but the phone was out of order, so I went back down and described the situation to the receptionist who moved us to another room. Again the beds looked hastily made and this time there were dirty finger smears on the folded over part of the bed sheet, Again the floor was not vacuumed AND the inside of the door and part of the door knob were smattered with what looked like bbq sauce!
Again the phone didn't work so I went back to the desk. This time the receptionist came up to the room, took pictures, and called the owner.
We demanded a refund, At first she said she wasn't able to refund since I had booked w/Hotels.com. When I reminded her that she had JUST charged my credit card $499 for 3 nights + a $100 refundable "courtesy" fee, she reversed herself. By now it was 11:00 pm & we left and booked another hotel."
"This hotel will meet your needs...that's it...not what I expected from a Hilton property....check in was quick and efficient...parking was plentiful...my room was dated and even had a leak in the ceiling...staff was great...but would I stay here again...no"
"Nice facelift for the building. Very clean and fresh looking. Staff seemed friendly. Breakfast selections were good for "Cold Continental".
Overall, a good value stay."
"I arrived at 430 to be told my room wasn’t ready. I had to wait an hour for my room. I have an 11 month old baby and if my family wasn’t there I would’ve been left to wait in the lobby. When asked how they could compensate I was told there was nothing they could do for me. My room was 2.5 hours late. They didn’t even apologize."
"The hotel is on a stretch of road surrounded by many stores and restaurants, which I liked. The room was decent. The biggest problem I had were that almost half the outlets in the room were either not working at all, or so loosely held the plugs that the plug would just fall out. I use oxygen and brought my machine for overnight use and the charger for my portable unit, and I had to make sure the oxygen machine was plugged into a secure outlet. The outlet I had to settle on meant the machine had to be at the bathroom sink, and even then it wasn't totally secure. Other than that, the shower was nice, the breakfast items were good, and my boyfriend appreciated the car chargers in the front of the building. There were other hotels on the same street, if I were to stay in the area again, I might consider a different one."
