Laumeier Sculpture Park

Laumeier Sculpture Park which includes outdoor art, rides and a garden
Visit this open-air sculpture gallery to enjoy some modern masterpieces in the great outdoors.

Laumeier Sculpture Park's 42 hectares of woodland and open fields are home to more than 70 sculptures. These contemporary works include pieces by both local and international artists, and are organised into seven outdoor galleries.

Enter the park via the main entrance on the northern side. In front of you, you'll see the Visitor's Centre, housed in a 19th-century mansion, but before you head in, explore the Museum Circle gallery and the Northern Grove. Pick up your audio guide and map at the Visitor's Centre, and check out the indoor gallery.

When you leave the Visitor's Centre, the first outdoor gallery you'll come across is the Museum Lawn. Its 14 sculptures include "Eye" by Tony Tasset, and Mark di Suvero's imposing steel work, "Bornibus". Move on to The Way Field, where you can't miss Alexander Liberman's "The Way": eighteen salvaged oil tanks painted a vibrant red.

The park's woodland galleries are a treasure trove of artistic delights, with sculptures nestled among the trees along the well-signposted trails. Those with families should head to the southern end of the park where the vibrant Children's Sculpture Garden is located.

If you fancy having your lunch in the park, bring a picnic, as there's no restaurant onsite. Alternatively, you can take a stroll to one of the many eateries in the vicinity. Before you leave, have a browse in the Visitor Centre's gallery shop.

All outdoor galleries are open from 8 a.m. until sundown throughout the year, and the Visitor's Centre is closed on Mondays. Volunteer guides give informative tours on the first and third Sundays of the month these are free and don't run during the winter. Exhibitions change regularly, so check the website for details.

Laumeier Sculpture Park is free to enter and there's an extensive car park located next to the main entrance. If you're travelling by public transport, catch one of the two Metro buses that run from St. Louis city centre to the Sunset Hills Shopping Mall. From here, it's just an 800-metre walk to the park.
