In this town near Oslo go skiing, ice skating and hiking. This well-connected spot has one of Scandinavia’s biggest climbing parks.

Visit the town of Lillestrøm, with beautiful hiking trails during the summer and great cross-country skiing trails during the winter. Find an ice rink, an outdoor swimming complex, a lively shopping centre, a great cultural centre and a big climbing and activity park.

The development of the area started with a steam sawmill fed by the river. It was mostly a region covered in swamps but that didn’t stop the town’s first inhabitants from settling around the sawmill. The name Lillestrøm means “the little part of the stream,” in the language of medieval Norway called Old Norse. Explore the region that developed into a lovely town with great transportation links. One train connects central Lillestrøm directly to Oslo and a high-speed train travels to Oslo’s international airport, Gardermoen.

Høyt & Lavt is Lillestrøm’s famous activity and climbing park. The huge complex has different routes varying in difficulty and passing through the many trees of the area. Challenge yourself and go climbing using the more than 220 devices that form the routes, including high zip lines. Enjoy the views from the tops of the trees and then relax in the park’s lovely café.

While you are exploring Lillestrøm, make sure you stop at the art centre Akershus Kunstsenter. Find contemporary art pieces, including paintings, drawings, photographs and videos by many young artists.

Go to Lillestrøm Torv, the shopping centre in the heart of downtown Lillestrøm. Here you will find many good shops and places to eat. In the square next to Lillestrøm Torv discover the town’s ice rink and go ice-skating.

Next to Lillestrøm’s train station find Norges Varemesse, Norway's largest exhibition centre and a popular spot for local and international events.

Lillestrøm is a small city just 12 miles (20 kilometres) from Oslo, the capital of Norway. It’s one of the two main towns in the well-known region of Romerike, near Oslo’s international airport. Travel to the area to enjoy Norway’s outdoor activities.

This was an odd property, more like a hostile or a room rental in a person's home than a hotel, but it served my needs, it was clean, safe, and was conveniently located for being far from Oslo (only a 10 minute direct train to downtown). My only issue was that I didn't receive any the check-in instructions ...

Check in and check out were smooth, room was clean. Around 10p my room started smelling strongly of smoke - my guess was that someone in a neighboring room might have been smoking? Unsure. The smell came and went. Unfortunate considering everything else about my stay was wonderful.

We stayed in a large studio for 3 nights on the second floor. The beds were comfortable and everything was very clean and accessible. We had been to a football match in Oslo and did come back hungry to Lillestrøm. But after 10 pm in the night it is difficult to find something easy and cheap food to eat. So we had to go to Rema 1000 - and that is quite close to the hotel.
