This lodge was an amazing stay! They provide 2 safaris, one in the morning and one at night, as well as breakfast/lunch/dinner. The guides are fantastic at finding animals, and were very thoughtful on finding specific animals from the Big 5 that we haven’t seen. I would definitely stay here again!

Fantastic 5-star experience
Kapama met and surpassed all expectations we had for a 5-star game reserve. The staff were ever present to ensure your stay was as you wished, the facilities were clean and easily accessible, and the decor/architecture was outstanding. The highlight for us was the food, which was consistently delicious with a always that was always new and fresh for each meal sitting.

Sometimes, the stars do align. And it is easier to align if the game reserve staff go above and beyond. This game reserve did exactly that. We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary and decided on a whim to experience a game drive holiday. From the pickup at the airport to dropping off, our stay and experience here went far beyond our expectations. What makes this game reserve stand out is the friendliness and attention to detail each staff have, and they striving to make us feel at home and welcomed. The all inclusive stay has wonderful food and drinks. We stayed four nights and found it perfectly adequate to enjoy the two daily included game drives. We had the perfect guide and tracker, Edwin and Tokollo, whom we clicked well with, and sharing the vehicle with the cute couple David and Aggie too. Every game drive the six of us have together is wonderfully informative, funny and fun. Thank you both, Edwin and Tokollo for making this a perfect trip. Truly memories to last a lifetime.

What a beautiful experience this was. I was blown away with the hospitality and service this lodge provided. The staff are incredible and make you feel at home. They go above and beyond. Tintswalo, Erasmus, Faith, Collins and Nicco were a few to mention. The game drives were sensational . This will remain a core memory for years to come. Can’t wait to visit again.

An epic stay
If you are going to splurge on a safari, you might as well do it right and visit Kapama. They get to know each guest and pamper you, but the amazing staff also give you time and space to do your thing. Whether you want a romantic retreat, epic family vacation or a friend’s get-away, Kapama is an awesome spot. It is where I’ll take all my visitors who make the long journey to Southern Africa to come see me.

We stayed here for our honeymoon. Words cannot describe how we feel about Kapama River Lodge. This place is unbelievable. I’ve stayed at many 5* hotels, but this lodge is far more superior than any of them. The team are AMAZING, Azaria and Milton, our ranger and tracker were unbelievable and so committed to help us track down what we wanted. Kulani the waiter was an absolute delight. Not a single day did I ever see him not smiling. The housekeeping team would make the rooms up three times a day. For our first night, they even got a hot bubble bath ready for my wife before we got back from dinner. To top it all off, the food is outstanding. I have never tasted food at any hotel, lodge or boutique this good, ever. Over our 4 days we were stuffed. We’ve never been offered so much food before and there’s a LOT of variety. We felt sad to leave as it felt we were leaving our family behind. All in all, if you’re doing a safari, and have any doubt on where to go or stay, choose Kapama. They will do absolutely everything they can to make your stay with them as good as it can get.

Everything was amazing. The food was delicious, staff friendly and patient. The most outstanding part of our trip was the game drives with our game ranger Edwin and tracker Sipho. They were the biggest hit with my kids and we will be returning just because of them.

I was very disappointed by the room and the cleaning service, I expected better. The turndown was also a disappointment as they did not even go extra mile for my birthday yet we paid extra change for it. Our bed was as if it was made by a 9 year old baby, the room was dirty throughout our stay yet the cleaner came back very day. The only thing we enjoyed was the restaurant and game drive.

Kapama was amazing! The staff were awesome and so helpful and worked to give their guests the best experience. The facility was clean and so beautiful. I’d highly recommend Kapama river lodge, we had an absolutely perfect stay and have nothing negative to review. I had indicated I was vegetarian upon booking under dietary restrictions, upon arrival the chef immediately sought me out to ask about food and every meal the kitchen management checked in to make sure I had enough to eat, despite there being plenty, they even made me my own veggie boards for lunch. All the stuff went above and beyond and were so friendly. The guide and tracker we had for the safari drives were so personable and made sure we saw everything we wanted to see, saw all big 5 and more. Wonderful

Excellent game drives and service. Staff are great. My family and I really enjoyed our stay. However, WiFi doesn’t work in the room and the food is average. Also, you can’t make local phone calls using the phone in the room. You’ll have to go to the lobby and ask the front desk to make the calls for you. Overall, I’d still recommend this place :).

The best part of the trip was our game drives with our guide and tracker. The worse part was the room and service elsewhere. The rooms are very dated, definitely not luxury. Our bed was rock hard, our door was thin and the room was extremely noisy due to hallway sounds. The resort didn't feel peaceful, it was overcrowded and often loud. We wouldn't say this was a relaxing experience. The service at meals was spotty - often times we weren't even shown to our table and one night we weren't offered the first course of soup. I was once reprimanded for helping myself by pouring water from a pitcher into my glass at dinner. The staff member who scolded me acted as if she was rushing to do it herself when most nights she barely even took our wine order. Not luxury service, not even Olive Garden level of service. The spa pool area was nice but the actual service used subpar ingredients and not the ones mentioned on the spa menu. Definitely not worth the money. We regret not staying with a slightly pricier lodge at Sabi Sands. We would've gotten to see better animals, with more experienced guides, and better service.

Great for safari, but a bit Disney-esque
Game drives were top notch. That’s the main reason to go, and well worth it for that. Common areas are nice but it’s so big that it can’t help but feel corporate and most interactions, though all the staff are very professional, feel kind of forced and phony. Buffet food was plentiful and varied but not very exciting. More of a guided experience — decide for yourself whether that’s what you want or something more flexible.

Amazing luxurious lodge. And we saw the Big Five!
Kapama River Lodge is absolutely amazing. The service is top notch - from the ranger and tracker to the housekeeping and waiters. The lodge is luxurious, with a beautiful spa and several nice common areas to relax in between drives. The private game reserve gives you the ability to get up close to the animals. I can’t recommend Kapama highly enough. Book your trip now!
