"Convenient location but you need to pay attention for the turn in to the property, I found it difficult to see the correct entrance. Showing signs of wear particularly in the hallways. Staff were very helpful."
"All good on arrival , room not ready so went for a drink, back at 15.00 room ready(320) looked great but stank of sewage, wife complained ( I can't speak), relocated to room 220, nice room, spotless. All ok until shower time, only one towel, wife complained again, rectified. Went for dinner, all good except tables in bar area not cleaned and had debris on them. Sat down to dinner, ordered food and bottle of chateau neuf de pap, food came, no wine, didn't have any neuf de pap, ordered alternative which arrived as we were finishing our main courses, wife had had enough, sent wine back. Manager came over, wife spoke with her, resolved issues. Meal at no charge.
There were several other minor things, it feels as if hotel is on the brink of failing, eg if we looked out of our window there was lots of patio furniture left out in the rain with filthy tables left in disarray. Wouldn't take much to put them away tidily, showed an air of disinterest. Also down stairs bar not open, dont see why, doesn't make any kind of business sense, it was closed 5 years ago too.
All in all I was very disappointed, I had planned this visit to celebrate my birthday (66) and the end of 6 weeks of radiotherapy, and to treat my wife who has had alot to contend with. Could have been so much better."
"We were welcomed to the Hand hotel by polite and helpful staff . The Historical building is old but functional, and you can see it’s gone through some modernisation in the bar/ restaurant and outside sitting area , which was is a very nice and relaxing setting next to the river. However, indoors the hotel could do with a lift, as if your elderly, disabled, have a push chair , or suitcases, you have a struggle climbing stairs! Our room in particularly overlooked the entrance doors, and you can see through the windows of the hotel rooms opposite, and vice versa, so curtain nets are required. The room could be better arranged to accommodate the table and chairs , and tv would be better on the wall. Bed sheet was clean but base sheet was dirty around edge of the bed. Bathroom floor needed a mopping and plug does not fit in the bath. There were no drinking glasses provided , only 2 small plastic beakers in the bathroom. Shelf directly over the sink prevents you from washing your face properly in fear of catching your head! A room phone to reception would be useful ? Our stay was comfortable, but rooms need updating and modernising to fall inline with modern living!"
"Pros - Can’t fault the cleanliness of the hotel, our room was spotless and finished to good spec. Staff were friendly and helpful. Cocktail upon arrival is a great touch and we enjoyed the fun vibe of the hotel.
Cons - The breakfast area downstairs was far too small to cope with number of guests on Sunday morning we were there, so lots of people were pushing through to get food and having to stand up against bar or use the bar stool seats.
We also had people outside until early hours having lengthy loud conversations and smoking outside the front entrance underneath our room, which forced us to close window which made it incredibly stuffy."
