"Breakfast felt a bit stingy compared with other accommodations in Costa Rica for lower price, the portions are small and if you want additional portions they will charge you. Room was very spacious and fairly clean. Service was a bit subpar. "

"This property is set on a very steep street. Walking from bottom (beach access) to top will leave you drenched in sweat given the heat and humidity. The beach has private access but it is a bit far and again very steep. Parking is horrendous due to steep incline and tight spaces. If you love parallel parking on a steep street, you will leave this. Rooms are nice enough and breakfast is excellent. "

"I’ve genuinely never stayed anywhere quite like this—and not in a good way. This hotel is so far from 5-star, it’s hard to know where to begin. On arrival, there was just one person working at reception during what we were told is peak season. You’re forced into a single queue for everything—check-in, broken room keys, general queries—which meant a long wait just to get to the desk. Unsurprisingly, no one in the queue seemed happy. The rooms are incredibly dated—like stepping back into the 1970s. Everything feels old and tired, right down to a corded phone mounted on the bathroom wall. It’s not charming or retro, just in serious need of an update. Breakfast was completely average—nothing you’d expect from a hotel positioning itself as 5-star. The pool itself is decent, but it was so overcrowded that people were sitting on the floor due to a lack of seating. Towels also ran out and weren’t replenished, despite asking multiple times. At best, this is a 3-star hotel charging 5-star prices. I wouldn’t recommend it."

"We had an excellent time since we got to the property. Everybody was extremely friendly. We had an amazing time at their facilities. The pool was awesome. Staff was very attentive. Beers were extremely cold so we had an amazing time. I would highly recommend anybody looking for an amazing view to go and stay at this place. It’s very close to everything. "Hotel Plaza Yara exceeded my expectations. This was a last minute booking between two destinations. From the moment we stepped into reception till we left every encounter we had with the staff was gracious, helpful and filled with kindness. Our room was beautifully clean, spacious and complete with everything we could need for our stay. The breakfast choices were amazing and made to order and delicious. We were allowed to continue to use the amenities beyond our check out time which was great as we had some time to spare before leaving for our next destination. The art work on the gallery was so amazing. I would really like to bring some home with me. I haven't ruled that out as we need to pass by the hotel again on our way home. I highly recommend staying in this small and very thoughtful hotel. Pura Vida."

"The property was gorgeous. My only complaint is the location. From our room nothing was actually walkable. The restaurants aren’t on the same property as the rooms. There is not direct access to a beach. This was only a problem for us because we have very young children. "

"The rooms were clean and staff were very friendly and helpful. The neighborhood is noisy with loud music playing until late at night and dogs barking. In the room adjacent to mine someone was having an argument for about 45 minutes. Yelling could be heard clearly in my room even with the door closed."
