"The cottage is a bit tired but well equiped, clean and comfortable. The instructions to find the key were terrible! it says get them from a key safe padlocked to the front railings at the front of the house and they were at the back, attached to the house. Google maps cannot find the address so we followed the instructions given. It mentions a car show room that it is not there anymore (a convenient Tesco instead). "Since we last went to the Royal and Fortescue which was over 30 years ago it has had a major refurbishment. Our room was lovely, clean and well furnished. The bars were very smart and we had an excellent breakfast before departure. The staff were very polite and helpful. Our only minor complaint was the lift was out of action and we were on the third floor."

"This is a really nice hotel in a great location if you want to be in the centre of Lynmouth. The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We ate a couple of times in the Ancient Mariner, which is attached to the hotel - very good pub food. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was excellent - if you like a full english, you are in for a treat."
