"The room was excellent. Very spacious, plenty of storage. Big drawback though is, they aren't very soundproof when they put you under a room with kids that stomp until wee hours of the morning. The breakfast was a bit lacking in options, but still had most continental options. Pool area is smaller, so if there are any parties, good luck getting in. Overall, it's got a lot of promise if you can avoid parties and being booked underneath overly energetic kids."

"Although Ascend Collection’s website describes this as a contemporary boutique hotel, it is not contemporary. The woodwork is dark & heavy, the carpeting needs to be updated & replaced, and there’s a statue in the foyer that feels less than welcoming. (I hope Choice Hotels will be investing in new carpeting, etc). However, our room was spacious & comfortable, and it overlooked the Rock River. The restaurant offered delicious breakfast options, and the menu for dinner looked excellent. But, what made this hotel special was the staff. The woman who greeted us and checked us in was warm & welcoming. We had delightful conversations with Jonathan, the executive chef, and Bethany, a main cook. Misty, the head of housekeeping did an excellent job with a request. And each staff member we encountered smiled & said hello. They all made our stay wonderful! If we’re ever back in Rockford, IL, we’ll be back to stay at Riverview Inn & Suites."
