This is a budget hotel located 10 minutes walking distance from Atocha train station. Rooms are tiny but functional.
I had my backpack stolen from the tiny reception area while checking out at 7am. We had booked a taxi the night before to go to the airport at 730. There were two other people in the lobby also waiting for a taxi, plus one hotel reception staff, and one cleaning person. A second reception staff showed up minutes later. I did leave my pack on a chair while i went to get a coffee from the machine located 3 meters away. When i realized the pack was missing and asked staff to call police, they seemed amused. When i asked if they had a security camera in the reception area, they said they did not. If this is true, the property definitely needs one. Oddly, there are signs in other public areas advising guests of video surveillance. When i asked staff if this is a common occurence at the property, they said it does happen and that is why they tell guests to keep their eyes on their belongings at all times. As an experienced traveller, I know I shouldn't have to be told this (nor was I). If you choose to stay here because of the convenient location, beware! Your belongings are at risk even when there are no people around.
