"Excellent flat with kitchen, lounge and bathroom. Very quiet area with Resturant on site and a choice of others, plus a bar in village. Non-existent vegetarian options in Resturant on site. Bar opposite does nice pizzas. Recommended. "

"If you are visiting this wonderful part of Spain (Picos de Europa National Park area) the choice to stay at the Hotel Balsa may appeal to you if you like pleasant, simple surroundings where nature hikes are a stone's throw away. Mind you, there is nothing to do in the evening so if you are in for that kind of thing you might prefer booking a place in town (Cangas de Onís). In Soto de Cangue there are a couple of good restaurants (within walking distance from the hotel) but dark days vary in Spain so they may be closed on a Monday or a Tuesday or a Wedenesday. This is definitely a family run place and has that special family touch in furnishings and decor. Emilio, who helped me at the front desk, was also baking delicious sweet bread and overseeing work being done on the property but he was efficient, courteous and friendly. He suggested I visit the Covadonga lakes the morning of my departure even though it wasn't on my two-day itinerary. I took him up on that and am happy i did so and that the weather held out. Needless to say, rain is an important factor in what you can and cannot do in these exquisite Cantabrian mountains. Note: despite the fact that many rooms overlook the road, the management has taken great pains to ensure rooms are protected from heavy traffic noise. A very cheap and very delicious breakfast was served the next day in the eating room. Not your typical "continental breakfast style" either. Overall, a very satisfactory stay at the Hotel Balsa."
