Marstrand offers an intriguing mix of splendour and charm, with visits to the impressive Carlstens Fortress and long strolls along the harbour.

In Marstrand you will get a chance to experience a perfect combination of nature and culture. Take a trip back in time at Carlstens Fortress, taste delicacies from the sea at one of the many seafood restaurants or go on a day trip to see the sights in the surrounding coastal area.

Marstrand is a lovely town on the west coast of Sweden, where visitors flock to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere and refreshing sea. It's also a favourite summer spot for sailing and water sport enthusiasts. If you're planning a trip to Marstrand, you have to make sure to set some time aside for some water activities. Go for a swim in the crystal clear water, get your surfboard waxed and ride the waves, or go for the unexpected and test the Swedish waters with a diving class.

Marstrand also hosts a wide range of cultural events, with a particularly busy schedule during the summer. A visit to Strandverket Art Museum will give you a perfect mix of old and new under the same roof. The beautiful former military defence buildings Sodra Strandverket is now home to this modern art museum, displaying works from artists and photographers.

Find out more about the region's past with a visit at the town's biggest tourist attraction Carlstens Fortress. Construction of the fortress started in the mid-1600s and today it's an unforgettable experience. Don't miss out on one of the guided tours of the its many grand halls and magnificent corridors.

The town of Marstrand is located on an islet with the same name, and if you want to stay active on your visit, this is a perfect place for a stroll around a picturesque Swedish island. The path that takes you around is about 5 kilometres long and it takes about an hour to complete the walk. On the way, you will pass the imaginatively named Troll Forest as well as caves, where tools from the Stone Age have been found.

You can go to glorious Marstrand from central Gothenburg in about 40 minutes. The closest international airport is Landvetter Airport. It takes about an hour to drive from the airport to Marstrand, but there are also airport coaches with connections in central Gothenburg. Once you arrive in Marstrand, you will be able to tell straight away that this is a true gem on the Swedish west coast!

Liked that we had a spacious suite with a terrace. However, property on the whole was quite dated. Room had a damp smell and we had to ask staff to empty the fridge, as it was full of someone else's food including half a packet of smelly meatballs. Breakfast options fairly limited and coffee cold ...

Visited on the offseason and loved it. Hotel was well kept with all modern conveniences. Staff were friendly. We had the island almost to ourselves which allowed us to see more during nature hikes and had dinner in town where the locals embraced us so as to make us feel most welcome.
