"Great location. Good views of Lake Atitlan from the porch. Very secure location. Hostess was most responsive. There is a fully equipped kitchen. Remember to bring basic ingredients and groceries. Most of it is available at small street side stores five minutes from the house. Tuc tucs are readily available to travel into town or to local restaurants. There’s an Italian bistro within five minutes but it was closed Monday and Tuesday. One issue is a steep walk and three flights of stairs to reach the apartment. If you’re carrying luggage it can be a little difficult. The caretaker was helpful and immediately assisted with the luggage. It’s best to have one person remain at the street level with the luggage while the other goes up to the entry door and rings the bell. The caretaker who opens yhe door will help with the luggage if requested. Overall a very positive experience. The shower was exceptional and there’s hot water. There’s a hammock on the porch and gardens to walk around. "

"Excellent stay. Excellent restaurants close by. Excellent views of Lake Atitla... Dec 2025 • Family Great location. Minutes to lake front. They have swings and hammocks close to the lake. The hammocks were extremely comfortable and one can sleep soundly to the sound of wind and wave. There are excellent views of the massive lake Atitlan from choice locations scattered across the property or directly from your room that has large picture windows. There are outstanding restaurants providing all varieties of cuisines and we easily found vegetarian and vegan options. The town and street side shops are available within a few minutes. Five minutes walk will take you to a transcendental beach from which mountains, mists, clouds merging with peaks and fresh air rejuvenate you. There are local laundries that provide pick up and drop off service and fold clothes. So far we didn't find scorpions as noted by a guest The staff and the hotel owner were quite helpful and held our bags while our room was getting ready. I didn't experience the rudeness as described by an experienced guest in reviews. There is a coffee roaster shop and cafe serving exceptional Guatemalan coffee within two blocks of the hotel. Highly recommended. You will get a room facing the lake and sleep to the sounds of wind and wave."

"I have never felt more unsafe or disrespected in my life. While the Hotel Palmera Dorada itself is decent on the inside with nice rooms, everything else about this stay was a nightmare. The Location: The hotel is situated in what feels like the most dangerous neighborhood in Santiago Atitlán. It is surrounded by pitch-black alleys with zero lighting and is constantly teeming with drunks and suspicious individuals. We felt like targets every time we stepped foot outside the gate. If you value your safety, do not stay here. The Checkout (The Breaking Point): Despite having fully prepaid my stay through Expedia, the checkout experience was traumatizing. An armed guard physically blocked us from leaving the premises. They refused to let us exit until they had "inspected" the rooms, treating us like common thieves or criminals. I have traveled all over the world and have never been subjected to such a humiliating and hostile protocol. Being held against my will by an armed individual over a pre-paid room is completely unacceptable. Message to Expedia & Management: I am expecting a formal response from Expedia immediately. This was not just bad service; this was unlawful restraint. I am currently in the process of escalating this claim with a lawyer to address the actions of the staff and the lack of safety at this location. STAY AWAY."

"All buffet food is plentiful and fresh, the staff very kind and attentive. Beds were comfie, dinner on Christmas Day was also very good. All your staff made this guera feel very welcome. Mil gracias!"

"My husband and I had a wonderful stay at this hotel. Although I only stayed for one night, I wish I could have extended my visit. The staff were extremely accommodating and offered outstanding customer service. The location felt very safe, with many small stores and charming cafés nearby. The hotel was spotless, had a pleasant fragrance throughout, and the restaurant served excellent food. The complimentary breakfast was a delightful touch. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area :)❤️"
