Central location, close to everything, quiet and safe. Tasteful rooms. Fantastic staff, very welcoming, helpful and competent. Lovely rooftop. A great place to relax and enjoy the historical district. Excellent restaurants close by and a short walk to the beach.
Location in the heart of old Mazatlan was perfect for Carnival 2020. The rooms were modern, clean, and comfortable. Front desk staff were great and always friendly. The rooftop pool is unheated, and the bar was closed during our stay (Feb 2020).
I loved the location and the people were very friendly. We only stayed one night and next year we probably will spend more than one night. We had ZERO dislikes.
A lot of the building was under construction, therefore noisy after 9AM. Pool area bar was not set up. Otherwise, a very nice place with an excellent location near Plaza Machado.
An excellent retro modern hotel. Super clean and great staff. Convenient location to downtown Mazatlan’s tourist attractions.

Location, location, location! The Jonathon is hands-down the best hotel if you're looking for a place that's within reach of everything in Centro Historico. You can walk to the mercado, Olas Altas beach and the malecon, coffee shops and restaurants, and you're almost literally in Plazuela Machado. The staff are super friendly and always available to help. The hotel used to have a rooftop poolside bar a few years ago, but the neighbors complained. So now the rooftop is a quiet oasis to relax in the lap pool or find a sunny spot on a chaise lounge chair.
The downside to the place is that the breakfasts are not what you'd be familiar with in the US or Canada. There's a small fridge atop the bar with "juices" (nectars), an urn of coffee and sugar-laden pastries (one of each type of variety). So if you normally feast on donuts and pastries for breakfast, that's what you'll get here. If you want a substantial breakfast... eggs, toast, bacon, etc... you'll have to venture out to any one of the several breakfast spots closeby.
Also, on Friday and Saturday nights, it can get quite noisy in Plazuela Machado with load music that can play on until 3:00 am. So if you're looking for peace and quiet on the weekend, the location of the Jonathon might not be your best option.
Aside from that, I've stayed there twice and will continue to do so, unless I'm looking for a house-keeping (i.e. kitchen, cooking facilities) unit, in which case I'd opt for something else nearby.
Overall, 4+ stars
The hotel is located right around the corner from the Plaza Machado. It is close to good places to eat, drink, and to walk. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the beach. My room was very comfortable, and the shower facilities were outstanding. The staff, particularly Alberto at the front desk, went out of their way to be helpful. My only gripe really isn’t directed at the hotel, but at the construction crews for the project right next door who started hammering on things at 8 AM. Next time I will ask for a room away from any on going to construction, but I would certainly stay here again.
The hotel was great and quiet (although it is hard to gauge when it is almost empty). The service though is something that can really tick you off. The promised included breakfast consisted of literally one muffin. You go into the breakfast area and see one muffin. ONE. The explanation I was given was - the other guests ate it all. Another point was - they don't have remote controls for AC. So if you want to adjust temperature, you actually have to get up from the bed and hit the buttons manually. That doesn't work grealy at nightm sibce you have to tturn the light on, break your sleep, etc. It looks pretty cheap when the hottel tries to save on such things. But the worst thing was the explanation that I was given when asked about the remote cotnrols for AC - I was told that 'this is absolutely normal and most hotels don't have it'. It is adding insult to injury.
Great room, and staff was helpful and friendly. Loved the location. Close to Plaza Machado and restaurants. Will definitely use the Jonathon for future trips to Mazatlan.

The hotel was in a great location to walk around and explore the old historic downtown.
Great location, great hotel! We got there way before check in and the hotel staff was able to accommodate our group. It was in the heart of Old Town Mazatlan where the farmers market is and walking distance to the beach. The room was beautiful and equipped with everything you would need. It was also very clean, which is my top priority. My ONLY complaint is that there wasn't enough light in the room. Other than that I would definitely stay here again!
Hotel ideal para disfrutar el centro historico de Mazatlán en general muy bonito totalmente adapatado y remodelado para hotel boutique, solamente sugeriria mejores sabanas en las habitaciones de mayor calidad
Great price, nice style, perfect downtown location
I stayed two nights at this hotel and found it to be an excellent combination of low price and central location. It's not near a beach, but perfect for exploring the historic city center, and it's near lots of restaurants and small shops and attractions. The room was rather stylish, with interesting design elements. The rooftop deck and pool has lovely views of the historic city (you can even see the cathedral), although the pool is so small that when I was there a family was taking up the whole pool — but you don't stay in historic downtown Mazatlan to swim (choose a beach resort for that). This was a great deal, nice style and I loved being able to have downtown right outside my door.
Bathroom sink and floor could use cleaning. Other than that it’s a great location, pool on top, bar not operating, the breakfast well, don’t count on it. Was told Juice is at room temperature if you want any (it was 89 degrees inside) and there was only one apple on the tray. Coffee is ok. We didn’t care since you are right where all the little restaurants are located. Staff is friendly. We will go back!

Algunos inconvenientes
What you see in their advertising does not exist!!! NO wifi, NO computor service. Dirty/muggy swiming pool. Top deck bar - closed! Not fuctioning and inside was dirty!! Breakfast = SAD!!! Two old muffins and a dry pastry, with one old banana!! A completly dry bouquet of red roses was suppose to welcome me at the front desk :( ??? There was a safe in the room for valubles, asking how to change code, I was told: the code is: 1234# without the ability to change the code. It was fixed!! I asked the girl what is the point of locking anything in there?? The light in bathroom was poor! Stepping on stones getting in and out of bed was awkward! I stayed one night instead of 14. Found another very nice B&B close by - SOO much better!! Thankfully I was refunded for the nights not staying there. Only good thing about this stay!!
