Hi Jeff,We are disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us. If you had spoken to one of our staff during the two days of your stay, we would have assisted in every way to make you more comfortable. Each person has a personal preference with mattresses and pillows and understand that there is no bed like your own. However, as is evident from our previous reviews, we prioritise the comfort of our guests and have never received such a negative comment regarding our beds. Regards,

Lovely little hotel in the forest. Quiet and secluded. Rooms are clean with lovely bathrooms. Dinner was delicious. Staff were polite, welcoming and super friendly. Would definitely stay again

Well past its heydey. Abrasive or oddly condecending service which seemed combative even to the most benign of questions. This made us feel stupid or bad for asking - even simple questions like "do you have my credit card number?" got an all knowing smart alec resopnse. (I note many other online reviews mention simillar lines of unusual ) Food options beware!... Everything looks reheated or from a packet and is very expensive for this level of junk. My chicken parma was very OLD, sweaty and inedible for fear of poisoning, chef agreed to throw out a whole batch as it was clearly not fresh) Tables in restaurant were so dirty that plates and cutlery strongly stuck to the table surface. (we took video) Tables were just so dirtly that where diners placed their elbows or forearms on the table there was a sticky build up of human skin, arm hair and general body detritus that was stuck to each table, like greasy belly button gunk! I suspected they watered down their tap beer too. Room was clean but worn out. The kitchen extraction systems in room 5 make the whole room buzz all night. Fire escape/rear entrance staricase safety lighting did not work and needs a phone torch to navigate. This hotel seems like a late 1970s build and is just not up to today's more modern expectations. Our TV didnt work but we didn't complain becasue we felt like we'd be made to feel it was our fault that it was not working or such. Just really poor value and living on past glory. Avoid

Dear Mr Harrop, How does one respond to such a vicious tirade of false and blatant accusations. Our staff are genuine and caring people who do all they can to ensure our guests enjoy their stay and are bewildered by your comments. As stated in your confirmation, credit cards are to be presented at checkin, this is industry practice to protect the security of the credit card holder. Our food is all fresh, our chicken is not frozen as advised by our Chef to you personally who strongly disagrees that he agreed to throw out any foods. We suggest you contact our beer supplier directly to question the quality of our kegged beer. Thank you for advising us that the outer staircase lighting had switched off, we will have the timer checked as to determine what could have been the cause. The humming in your room would have been the air conditioning running as it was an extremely hot night, our kitchen extraction fans do not run after 8pm at the latest. As for our tables they are cleaned and sanitized several times a day and with the hot sun through the atrium windows may have become sticky but I refute your suggestion of human residue. You booked a room that is a lesser price as it is an inside room without a terrace. There were other rooms available at the time you booked but you chose the lesser priced room. Our rooms have been renovated in the last couple of years and it is intentional that they have a homely, comfortable and country feel not a sterile run of the mill impersonal feel of some city hotels. We have checked the TV but are unable to find any issues at this time. It seems quite clear that we will not be welcoming you back but wish you well in your future travels.

Brilliant Black Spur Hotel
Friendly and approachable staff. Restaurant with amazing food and atmosphere. BBQ area looks fantastic 11am check out seemed to just add to the relaxing atmosphere. Will be definitely making this a regular. Close to Lake Mountain and attractions. MTB and Buxton Salmon/Trout Farm.

The place is not close to other shops or close to town. The room we have stayed was ok, but looks outdated. The staff on our check in are not that friendly. The food was good though but a little bit pricey. The only staff that made our day was the lovely gentleman (forgot to get his name) who serves us breakdast. He is so friendly.

Wonderful, cosy, warm and tranquil.
We had a wonderful stay! While this was our first visit here it will not be the last. Beautiful rooms, location and surrounds, wonderful lovely staff with a top waitress Bernie! All staff and management made our stay comfortable, warm and welcoming. Breakfast and Dinner were perfect. Not far to visit Bruno's Sculptural Gardens which is a must also as well as Steavensons Falls.

A beautiful warm home stay.
I had such a beautiful 'home' feeling stay. Right from the greeting to the very end, nothing was too hard. There was extra effort to just make you feel at 'home'. I liked the little touches like french press brew coffee, a port decanter for the evening, biscuits, etc, etc. The room was of a very good size, warm, inviting, and just so comfortable. I had dinner and breaky there both were home style great meals. I thank all the staff for such a lovely stay and I shall definately be back. Thank You

A great place to stay
This is a very good accommodation with character and history. The rooms seem to be recently renovated and are in great condition. Our room had a double bed and a single bed and it was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was nice and clean with plenty of lighting. The included breakfast was tasty. You could have dinner at their restaurant too. The staff is friendly. Not too far from either Healesville or Marysville. Overall, a great place to stay.

Excellent on all fronts
Very comfortable room, spacious and quiet in a beautiful relaxing forest location. Loved the fluffy bathrobes to relax in. Although on the main road, we hardly noticed any traffic noise, which pretty much died quite early. The on-site Restaurant was excellent and highly recommended. Great breakfast and nice leisurely check out time at 11am. Service all round was delightful.

Girls weekend away
The rooms were very comfortable. Very handy to have a mini fridge and kettle to make coffee & tea. Had a table with chairs and a couch so it was very nice to be able to sit and relax with our coffee. Bathroom was very nice, brand new. Shower was very weak, no pressure. Double bed was super hard. Single bed was super soft and noisy. I ended up sleeping with the mattress on the floor. Breakfast was included. I’ve tried different options and every single one was really good. We had dinner there on night. Food was really good but they took 1 hour and 15 minutes to bring it.

The property was very clean and facilities comfortable. The setting is glorious, the evening and morning sun was in the treetops which brought out all the colours of the Australian bush, it was brilliant. The guy who welcomed us on Sat evening was great, very efficient, and the evening meal very pleasant. On Sunday morning we were served breakfast by the owner Di who did an equally great job, a lovely lady, we stopped and chatted for a little while then went on our way. I wish the business well in these difficult times, do yourself a favour and take a trip up there for a short stay and some time out.

Not bad choice but nothing exciting
It was very quiet when we stayed in early January. We had dinner at the restaurant and the meal was nice. Breakfast was included in the price but it wasn’t buffet style. The sourdough bread was pretty ordinary. I ordered eggs but we can only choose 2 sides. It would have been great if it was buffet style. The room was okay, half of the window was covered by the roof and there wasn’t much view. The bathroom was pretty old but kept it well and clean. Overall it wasn’t too bad considering the price.

Retreat at an Affordable Price
A great place to get away from the hussle and bussle and stay in luxury at an affordable price. Rooms are large with high ceilings and a balcony and have every convenience. A wholesum cooked Aussie breakfast is included in the rate. Definitely will stay again.
