"Great place to go and chill, make sure your room has an outdoor soaking tub. However, I felt the staff does not typically deal with English speaking guests, while they are accommodating, culture may have been an issue. One staff member, from India was essentially assigned to my well being, and after I requested a taxi to drive me from the hotel to a further train station, I decided to utilize the local train to connect to the further station, and requested the hotel shuttle. 8/10 Good

"The property was beautiful and the Japanese kaiseki was a great experience. I would only get the breakfast if you are okay with fish in the morning, as someone who doesn’t eat much other than yogurt for breakfast I skipped the second morning. I am someone who is very allergic and sensitive to mold, so I was disappointed that the rooms were a bit musty and left me with an allergic reaction. So if you are affected by mold I would maybe look elsewhere- especially for the price."

Hotel Izukyu

10/10 Excellent

"The staff was very helpful. It was a stormy afternoon when we arrived. The hotel is right by the Shirahama beach( 2 minutes’ walk). Our room was on the top floor with ocean view, and we could see the sunrise and watch the surfers catching the waves. There is a 7-Eleven and Family Mart nearby. The room was very spacious. If you booked a Japanese-style room, you have to make your futon bed yourself. The futon was very comfortable !!! I didn’t get a chance to use the onsen as I have a tattoo, but it looks busy, very busy, especially at night. Overall, we had a great time staying at Hotel Izukyu. It was spacious, and the views from our room were amazing! I will definitely stay here again."

Shimoda Prince Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"This was a beautiful quiet hotel. While it is obvious thta it already has its years, it is very well maintained and has a beautiful onsen looking out to the sea. The restaurant offers a good varieties of food, and the staff was helpful and nice. The beach is great and the whole pool area is where you can spend most hours! Great hotel in Shimoda"
