Warm welcome. Lovely couple providing impeccable hospitality through our stay...a perfect weekend away with the wife and some much needed R and R away from our busy lives back home.
They were more than happy to tell us about the area, including places to eat and walks etc.
Food was amazing...all cooked to order, and locally sourced.
The attention to detail was brilliant...eg. Providing cold fresh milk in thermo canisters for our room. Home made shortbread to accompany fresh locally sourced ground coffee with cafetière and local tea for your room.
I cannot recommend this place highly enough. 10/10
We really enjoyed our stay at Dunkery Beacon Country House. This is a small and friendly country house our hosts looked after us very well. The hotel is very charming. The bedroom was clean and tidy with fresh décor and all of the facilities that you would expect (television, tea and coffee making, toiletries). The views over the Exmoor Hills were stunning. The hotel was in a very quiet location close to Minehead and access to the hotel was along quiet winding country lanes. The dining facilities were excellent with fresh décor and modern furniture. We took breakfast and dinner in the hotel and the food was to a very high standard and award winning. The chef support local produce suppliers. We chose this hotel because it was provided easy access to the West Somerset Steam Railway and Dunster Castle. We would definitely return and would recommend it to friends.
Former hunting lodge, converted to a small hotel with restaurant. The conversion provides good spaces for its new role while retaining the original character. The furnishings, artwork and 'pickup and read / look / play with' resources were all excellent and fitted the hotel's style. The attention and service from the owners was excellent and the food was superb.
A beautiful house in a beautiful setting . The views from our bedroom were spectacular .
Our hosts were warm and welcoming . The bedroom was full of character with every
thing you would expect to find in a good hotel room . The meals were well presented . Jane and her staff were attentive without being intrusive . We just loved it and look forward to making a return visit .
Our room was very comfortable with lovely views over Dunkery Beacon. The furniture in the room was interesting and well made and the hotel as a whole was very well furnished clean and comfortable. The shampoos and soaps supplied were of much higher quality than usual and the breakfast was great. We normally stay in chain hotels but the difference in comfort and service at this hotel was well worth the extra cost. Our reviews usually highlight the shortcomings of hotels and restaurants but we can only give Dunkery Beacon House a top rating.
Had a twin room with a sitting room very comfortable. When we had a problem of finding a place the staff helped us out with maps and instructions. Advised us on different walks to try out. Wonderful area for walking. Menu not huge but very pleasant, all cooked from fresh local food.
The whole experience was wonderful, it brought back memories of when I lived in Somerset 40 years ago.
The hotel is situated in a beautiful, secluded and extremely picturesque location.
Everything is about quality over quantity from the number of rooms to the very well prepared meals, which clearly use the best ingredients.
Limited facilities, but this is part of the charm. The owners and waitress were always on hand to ensure satisfaction and are very friendly.
Not suitable for younger children, which will suit many older people looking for a few days of tranquility away from busy lives.
The innkeepers, Jane and John were wonderful, friendly, and all one could want. The room and building were also immaculate, and nicely kept. A fan in the third floor room would have been nice, as it is not air conditioned. I suspect they rarely need air conditioning. But I did not think to ask until it was the middle of the night, and too warm. So not entirely their fault. The view was spectacular, and breakfast also first rate.
The hotel was comfortable with a super view from the bedroom. The owners and staff were extremely friendly, helpful and nothing seemed too much trouble for them. The food in the dining was superb. All in all a perfect stay.
An absolute find! John and Jane have created a fantastic country retreat set in the beautiful countryside of Exmoor. From the initial friendly meeting to the final wave goodbye the whole experience was brilliant - we absolutely adored this hotel. It's roots as a former shooting lodge shine through creating a 1930's country retreat feel but with a modern twist in terms of facilities. Clean, well-equipped rooms provide for a sound night's sleep. When you sit in the lounge and enjoy a glass of wine from Jane's very impressive wine cellar, it is just so peaceful and tranquil. Jane is a delightful hostess who knows just how to make you feel at home. And as for the dining experience words fail to express the true delight of the food that John produces. He is a truly talented chef and his food is simply fantastic. Taste, presentation and quantity are just perfect. We really, really loved the Dunkery Beacon Country Hotel and we will be back! Jess and Mike
third time here superb comfortable suite and rooms wonderful hosts who will do anything for you the food is superb relaxing Lounge with evening meal available on Wednesday to Sunday
We had a lovely, restful time. Our room was smart, clean and comfortable, and large enough to enjoy spending time in. There was also an equally smart and comfortable lounge where we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks. The staff were welcoming, friendly, polite and efficient. The food was delicious. If you visit you must have a meal at the hotel or you will be missing a treat.
Warm, friendly welcome by hostess. She was immediately on the case to research where we may take our car to get it fixed on a Saturday, following mechanical issues on journey to hotel. Fresh milk was fantastic - so much better than those little cartons that don't really taste like milk! Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and freshly home-cooked, good quality food. Wi-Fi reception fine, but, as pre-warned, there was no mobile phone signal other than Vodaphone, which made it slightly less convenient for us. However, the owners were happy to phone a restaurant/pub on our behalf to book a table for a meal. There was a small book and DVD library available for guests to enjoy during their stay. Also local information and the loan of maps was made available to guests.
