i definitely liked that this hotel was right on the slopes. just go in the back and start skiing down to the gondola and lifts. when done just ski right back in the back of the hotel. rooms were pretty big and nice but typical japanese rooms, you have to step over entryways, step up into living area, step up into bathroom, step up into bathtub, etc. bathroom was super tiny. views were excellent. it was a bit of a hassle to constantly put on and take off your shoes and put on house slippers but i can see that its part of what japanese do and also it keeps the area in the hotel clean of ice and snow from boots. and you share what ever slippers is available that other guests may have been using. the hotel restaurant for dinner was a bit overpriced. maybe good choices outside just down the street. conbini store was also down the street. renting skis was a bit of an experience because they actually get their equipment from a store somewhere in the area. so if you got your boot size wrong, its an inconvenience for them to get the store to bring up more boots to try. all in all though, very good hotel. nice views (get the mountain view) and very good location. staff was friendly even though they don't speak too much english. just be aware that the front desk person is also the cook, the waiter, the ski rental clerk, the shuttle driver, etc etc. Im exaggerating but they do multiple roles there.
