Staff/owner was very personable made me a meal on request in preparation for an even I was there to complete the next day, really good service. No frills accommodation. Comfy bed nice place very quiet

Fantastic little pub!

Fantastic place to stay the owners are amazing Thomas couldn’t do enough for us. He’s a trained chef and the food is excellent. The surrounding area is beautiful great for walking and mountain biking. We have booked to stay again in this gem of a place.

Stayed for one night. Room dated and in need of redecorating furniture needs updating. Cooked breakfast tasted like it had been cooked and reheated fried egg was rock hard some items warm some not. Staff were friendly enough just needs a bit of TLC.

The hotel bedroom was clean, the bed was comfortable. The food cooked by the manager Tomasz was exceptional and plentiful. Tomasz also goes out of his way to be accommodating and is very friendly. The village of Newcastleton is unspoilt and there are wonderful riverside walks. For the more energetic a walk up the hill behind the village is well worth while. For those with transport there are a lot of interesting and historic places to visit. If you like peace and wild beauty this is for you.

Great hosts, nice location and close to Kielder which is where we spent most of the weekend. Cooked breakfast was lovely, not very much selection for continental breakfast. Room was very clean but quite dated, not many facilities in room and we had a broken shower head which wouldn't stay up. Nice quiet hotel.

Pub with rooms may be more appropriate

We stayed here in August 2018 for one night. The hotel does not have a reception as such but the lady working on the bar was able to show us up to our room which overlooked the square. The room itself was a little dated and the bathroom as very small, with shower, sink and toilet all in one small area. The shower pressure was acceptable but the showerhead itself was too heavy for and would not stay upright and had to be hand operated. The room was a reasonable size but we thought it to be a little overpriced at £80 a night and the bed was also on the smaller side and softer than a normal bed. All of the above being said, the room was perfectly acceptable and served its purpose. We ate there on the evening and the food and service we received was fine although it did appear a bit chaotic with the chef also taking orders which caused delays. The man himself was very helpful but just seemed to have too much on his plate. He was also the same chap who served breakfast which was spot on with a full english and toast and good choice of fruit juice/cereal etc. He also helped us out when we realised we had a flat tyre which was much appreciated. The pub seemed to be busy on the Saturday night and there could be noise heard from downstairs until midnight when the pub closed.

With it being a small hotel with a public bar we found it very noisy with a few inconsiderate folk slamming doors at 1.30 in the morning walking us up when we had to be up early in the morning.

Excellent hospitality

The owner of the hotel could not have done any more to make us feel welcome; preparing us a delicious meal even though we were late arriving. The room was comfortable and clean and the breakfast was delicious too!

Good stopover for visitors to Kielder Observatory

We were made very welcome and have to say the food was good and freshly cooked to order. Breakfast was of the same standard. Very nice. Thomas could not have been anymore accommodating to our needs. Would stay again.

Convenient hotel of character

The hotel has seen its day but full of character and history. Famous people have stayed here and still do. Tom was was a terrific host, always available and attentive and personable. Made you feel welcome and right at home. The food was delicious and delightful (try the curry and the soup of the day!).

Our stay, Aug, 2016

The room was small with a small double bed, there was no phone signal and the wifi was poor.. Also the windows didn't open. The floor was unstable and I didn't feel very safe walking over it. However the staff were very warm and welcoming and more than happy to help with everything needed. The food both at breakfast and dinner was just lovely.

Perfect hosts who really look after their guests

We arrived after food was finished being but Tomas our host arranged for us to have a meal from what they could rustle up on the spot - and it was absolutely delicious. Spiced chicken and pasta. We also had an early start as my husband was in a mountain bike event the following morning. Again, Tomas arranged our breakfast for earlier than usual and looked after us so well. The bar and waiting staff were lovely too. This is a small private hotel and is so well run - the service is impeccable and the room and en-suite was spotless. Cannot fault our stay - this is the third time we have booked the Liddesdale and it won't be the last.

I have stayed before. The staff and locals are freindly and chatty. Excellent centre for walking, mountain biking or riding. Decent choice in bar. Not the smartest of hotels but well located
