Amazing food -- this was the highlight of our trip to Japan. We loved wearing the provided yukata to walk down to the mineral springs, and bathed in the onsen at least three times a day during our stay. The room, with its traditional tatami mats and low table, also included western-style chairs where we could look out at the river. Don't miss the hike over the rocks along the river, and the views of the mountains and countryside. Our host graciously drove us to and from the train station, and even dropped us off at Edo Wonderland for the day. By far the best part of the visit was the food - so many dishes of freshly prepared Japanese cuisine, beautifully presented, and with an English menu translation to help us further appreciate what we were served. Although the host spoke little English, and sadly we had even less Japanese, we were able to communicate, and he was so kind and gracious. We loved this place -- it will be our fondest memory of Japan!
