Dramatically situated on a cliff overlooking Narrow Cove and the Atlantic Ocean, Ogunquit Museum of American Art makes a statement before you even enter its doors. Visit Ogunquit, Maine, and explore the more than 2,000 works of American art in the museum.
Ogunquit Museum of American Art was founded in 1953 by artist and philanthropist Henry Strater. Today, its collection encompasses paintings, sculpture, photographs, prints and drawings dating from the late 1800s to the present. Walk through its exhibits and learn more about the artists featured.
View the permanent collections in Ogunquit Museum of American Art, including watercolors by Eliot O’Hara, ceramic sculptures by Carl Walters and oil paintings by Henry Strater. Discover artists from the famous Ogunquit art colonies, such as Edward Betts, Hamilton Easter Field, Robert Laurent and Charles Woodbury. Maine residents aren’t the only artists featured. See works by celebrated American artists such as Peggy Bacon, Walt Kuhn and Gaston Lachaise.
Check out the current exhibits on display. Most, but not all, of the temporary exhibits feature Maine artists and are at the museum for several months at a time.
Enjoy the salt air in the museum’s seaside sculpture garden. The gardens offer something new with every season. Take a scenic stroll among the plantings, rest on one of the secluded benches or gaze into the reflection pool. Show your kids the animal-themed sculptures by Maine artists, including a horse, a dolphin, a garden toad, a rhino and a lion.
Get a sourvenir from your visit at the OMAA Museum Shop. Discover a unique collection of books, jewelry, décor and other items. Most of the products are made by local Maine artisans.
Visit Ogunquit Museum of American Art 7 days a week between the beginning of May and the end of October. Members receive complimentary entry while others pay admission, with discounts for seniors and students. Children under the age of 12 have free entry.
