Great pub with rooms
Turning up late, they kept the kitchen open for me and the food was excellent (and again in the morning!) History is palpable throughout but the creature comforts are well taken care of

Interesting hotel with lots of history
A warm welcome on arrival. Very fruendly landlord. Excellent food in the restaurant and a good breakfast cooked to order. Our room was spacious and clean. The only negative from me was that the mattress in the Bovey room was thin and I could feel the springs, so not the best nights sleep.

This is a unique pub, with historic connections, and recent celebrity visitors which was a big surprise.Very cosy and very friendly, with excellent service and food.

This lovely Hotel is steeped in history. The rooms are beautifully decorated and the food is very good indeed. Simon, Lyn and John are excellent hosts. We hope to return again soon.

Lovely old historic property which has been decorated and furnished in an atmospheric style. Very comfortable 4-poster bed in our room. Walking guide (one of 5) was very well written and useful, got some amazing views from atop the nearby peak. The dinners were excellent and the wine choice extensive. Staff are very friendly and made us feel welcome. Very few negatives and only small improvements needed. Some staff training issues around restaurant service and housekeeping which were apologised for and didn't spoil our stay but for the price being charged we wouldn't have expected these little lapses to occur.

An amazing stay with fabtastic food
Had an amazing stay. Food was beautiful. The hotel recommended a 5mile circular walk which we did was was also beautiful. Friendly staff too!

Spectacular Hotel!
I found the Oxenham Arms Hotel absolutely spectacular. The service was impeccable and the staff were friendly and always helpful. One couldn't ask for a better place to stay in England. A beautiful ancient hotel and well-appointed with great food and fun people. What more could one ask for? I will definitely be back back. How could I not come because I loved my room and the hotel so much!

Gorgeous place
Honestly, absolutely perfect. The staff couldn’t have been more friendly and helpful, the room was absolutely gorgeous and really well equipped. The restaurant produced some amazing food and were more than happy to amend things for my restrictive diet. My partner was very impressed with the wine list too! We went running a couple of times and there were some great routes. The whole area was stunning.

The Oxenham arms .
The room and location were lovely , we had a four poster bed in what was the Abbots room , the history of this place is amazing , the staff were all friendly and helpful and the food excellent , we would highly recommend The Oxenham Arms .

Given 5/5 because there is no reason to mark anything else ! The staff and owners are very welcoming and attentive. Quality food well cooked and presented, good menu choice at dinner and good fruit cereal along with traditional english breakfast for the mornings. Historic building providing interest and ambience warm with central heating and open fires. Rooms ensuite with four poster beds,spotlessly clean and comfortable. We shall retutn.

A dip into history
Old (very old) inn which has been modernised in traditional style. Where else can you sleep in the bed Dickens slept in or dine beside an ancient standing stone? Add to that good food well presented and an excellent wine list and it adds up a very satisfying stay. But don’t expect the floors to be even...

Historic Devon moorland hotel
Located in unspoilt moorland village of South Zeal, this hotel, which is an 800 yr old former monastery, is a lovely place to stay and escape to and use as base for exploring the moors.

The stay was okay. Good points: nice bar and food perfectly good. Service was very good and the welcome very warm. On the other hand, I found my room very warm - it was September with average temperatures and I was surprised that there was no soap in the bathroom, which looked a bit tired.

Refurbished older pub hotel
We stayed just one night in this hotel. We chose it as it is not pet friendly! Whereas many other local hotels are. However there are two resident cats but our allergies were not affected The hotel has loads of character, the owner was most helpful and the English breakfast very good. We did not stay for dinner so I am not able to comment. The room was well furnished with a four poster bed. The bathroom was large and completely refurbished and worked well. Our only issue was that it was very cold outside (zero C) and the room was a little cool, despite the radiators being on. Overall a good experience.

A lot of History here.
A very pleasant one night stay in a beautiful old building. Stayed in the 'Lustleigh' room which is above the main bar, I imagine it could be rather noisy on a busy evening but it was quiet enough for us. View is across the not very busy main street. Dinner was very nice as was breakfast, currently undergoing some repair work in the main breakfast dining area but looked to be ready for completion soon. We found the mattress a little too hard but not so as too be too uncomfortable.

Great accommodation in excellent location
The Oxenham Arms is situated in a lovely little village and is a great base from which to explore Dartmoor, Exeter, Bude, Clovelly. So many great places can be accessed easily from this warm and friendly hotel. The staff are so attentive and welcoming, the food in the restaurant is amazing and the building has a lot of charm and character.
