On your holidays in Olivenza, you’ll have the chance to admire historical monuments and enjoy natural attractions in this town in Badajoz.

Olivenza is a town in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. It lies on the border with Portugal and actually used to be a part of Portugal, after the crown of Castile ceded the town as thanks for the military aid received.

Thanks to our cheap trips to Olivenza, you’ll soon see that the list of monuments to visit there is very extensive. You can start with the Olivenza Castle, built by the Knights Templar in the 13th century. After passing to Portuguese hands, the castle had a wall built around it, like much of the city. Its tribute tower is some 40 metres (130 feet) high, and is ideal to admire the surroundings. You should also visit the Ethnographic Museum, next to the castle.

Another monument you’ll want to see is the Puente de Ayuda, a bridge that crosses the mighty River Guadiana. This 380 metre (1200 feet) arched bridge connects Spain and Portugal and was built to facilitate access to Olivenza. Nowadays it is covered in greenery, meaning it’s a great idea to cross it and enjoy the tranquillity as you take in this almost magical scene.

The months of July and August are the warmest of the year in Olivenza, an ideal time to visit the Piedra Aguda reservoir, where you can refresh yourself with the scent of the eucalyptus trees. Be sure to bring your swimsuit for your package deal to Olivenza!

Another option is the Charca de Ramapallas, an artificial lagoon where you can enjoy nature. The little ones will have a great time in the children's play area, while the adults will be able to fish or simply sit and take in the peace that emanates from this natural space.

To get to Olivenza, you should first fly to Badajoz and, at the bus station, take a bus that will have you in town in half an hour. Take advantage of our trips to Olivenza to visit the surrounding villages or even to cross the border with Portugal.
