Plan your trip to Opokskoe and take advantage of the sights and activities in the area.

Sukhona is a flat river, originates in the Kubensky lake and flows quietly and calmly. But closer to its mouth (near Veliky Ustyug, the river flows into the Northern Dvina) suddenly its meek character changes into a steep mountain temper. Rolls and sills begin, the course changes abruptly several times, and the current accelerates to 5 m / s.
The village of Opokie (or the earlier name - Threshold) stands at the steepest bend and the most dangerous threshold. In the old days, when rivers were the main trade routes, merchants preferred not to take risks, but to drag vessels with goods of 800 m to be dragged.

It was here, under the onslaught of the river, that Sukhonsky rocks were formed. Gradually digging into the thickness of the ancient Permian and Quaternary sediments, the river exposed a 70-meter layer of red clay, and white gypsum, and other mineral rocks that are hundreds of millions of years old. And all this naked "construction" fascinates with its correct, and sometimes even ideal, geometric shapes and a restrained, but expressive palette. A dense northern forest is green on the cliffs.
