Great little budget hotel
I was quite hesitant in booking a 2 star for my stay in Paris but was pleasantly surprised . The area Didot is only a metro ride to the centre of Paris , there are plenty of places to eat such as les artistes where the food was great and the welcome warm. The hotel was basic but good for the price , the staff were really helpful and accommodating , I would use it as a base again .

Room did not live up to photo, very basic, grubby carpet, peeling wallpaper, dated furniture, room could do with modern upgrade; bathroom best feature. Area generally good, variety of eating outlets; many amenities within walking distance and close to two metro stations

Find a better place
The hotel is truly run down, the safe in the room did not work, the shower head fell on my daughter's head, there were not black out lined curtains just thin light weight ones with the result that we were awake at the crack of dawn every morning since the room faced East, there was a lot of noise coming from the neighbourhood, either from a cafe' or from delivery trucks or rubbish collection, the room has paper thin walls so you could hear everything. There were not enough towels in the room so we had to ask for more more.

Checked in a dilapidated room with modern amenities: What an interesting contrast
It was indeed an interesting contrast to see a rather dilapidated tiny room with old and dirty-looking carpet, old furniture (if any to speak of you might actually fall off the single bed as it is somewhat tilted), old painted walls (but the bathroom looks as though it was recently renovated) fitted with a flat screen TV (but no cable so only french channels), in-room safe and a small fridge a rarity in 2-star hotels in Paris). The high point of my top floor (5th) room (room #50) is it has two small balcony-windows to enjoy a decent view. My stay could still have been plaisant if it were not for thin walls and a definite lack of soundproofing (plus loads of inconsiderate guests as the hotel seemed fully booked). Location, though not central, is still acceptable a mere 10 -13 minute walk to Alesia metro station. I hope I will not have to book such a hotel again.

Not great
When I managed to check into the hotel initially I was told my room was on the third floor, after walking upstairs I eventually found it in the fifth floor. Got into my room, and the room was bit of a state. went to turn on the tv and it didnt work so I went downstairs and told the receptionist who just said try wiggling the plud a bit and that was all that was done. The safe in my room didnt work and the phone was just shoved into the top of the cupboard. the towel in the bathroom was ripped and didnt look clean. I went out for the evening and when I returned I found that the plug sockets in my room did not work so I had no electricity, this is probably why the tv did not work. I informed reception and after two days nothing had been done about it. So after this experience I would never return and would not recomend this hotel to anybody also this hotel is only a 2 star.

Value Choice
Our third stay at this hotel. It is clean, the staff are very pleasant and it's not too far from the metro. The accommodation and facilities are fairly basic but as somewhere to sleep it's fine and the price very fairly reflects what's on offer. Would stay again

mixed cheap hotel should be cheap price
The 2 receptionists we spoke with were apologetic for the poor wifi and condition of the hotel for the price. The day was during fashion week and few hotels were available which meant prices were inflated beyond reasonable. We paid way to much for a ripped filthy worn out carpet and old bed and room. Bathroom fairly new and water pressure great. For 50-60 euro it would have been ok but for the $170 it was just crazy unreasonable. They gave us a nice hardy breakfast for free which made it in all a nice send off. I would stay again only if at a cheaper more appropriate price.

Overpriced, in a terrible condition
This hotel is truly overpriced and is in a terrible condition. The breakfast is mediocre and costly, while the rooms and the hotel show signs of deterioration. I do not recommend it unless it's a last choice. The only positive thing is that the staff do their best to be helpful.

You get what you pay for
This was sort of a last-minute decision as I had made the decision to visit Paris spur of the moment. I was absolutely clueless about where to stay as I had never visited Paris before. While the room felt a bit confining, the bed was sufficiently large. I'd say large enough for 2 adults. The price was affordable for a stingy, single guy like myself. Over all, the stay was satisfactory, and I have nothing to complain about except the availability of English channels on TV.

Great hotel and very helpful staffs,
I booked a queen bedroom and the room size is larger than I expected for a room in Paris. Great customer service! They also have a tons of info regarding travelling in Paris. I really enjoy my time there and I'm not sure why there were bad reviews. I think they've improved a lot if there were negative points.

This was certainly not what we expected. The pictures of the hotel certainly give a different impression than the reality of the hotel. The room was dirty, the walls were even dirty. The bed was clean and although one side was up against the wall it was reasonably comfortable. We were in room 51!

Half-decent budget hotel
This is your typical bare-bones budget hotel, one step up from a hostel. The location is pretty decent: you are in Montparnasse area, 5 minutes walk from the Metro stations Plaisance and Alesia. Paris subway is reliable enough to get you pretty much anywhere you'd care to go within the city in 30 minutes or less, so this is a plus. The general area is decent and mostly clean, though there are occasional bums you may run into, but they aren't aggressive. There are a lot of places to eat nearby (both eat-in and take-out). Also nearby is a laundromat, good for those traveling light or backpacking. The room itself is very small, and lacks an air conditioner, which is no doubt awful if the weather is hot. The hotel staff keeps the place clean, but it is in quite a bit of disrepair - wallpaper peels, carpet is worn, tile is shabby and everything looks like it seriously needs an update. Still, it's clean enough and the bed is comfortable enough if you only need to come back to the room to sleep and spend most of your time out in Paris. If you are looking for a clean, no-frills place to crash for a low price, this is an option for you. But be prepared to put up with shabby and outdated rooms, and don't expect a posh romantic getaway.

Great hotel for price
The staff was very friendly, and made me feel comfortable as a single woman traveling alone. The room was clean and comfortable, although on the small side as all Paris hotels are. Nice view from window as well. The location is far from the touristy spots, but I found this to be a positive feature. A great Sunday flea market is a few blocks away. I would stay here again.

Staff friendly, as to the room, depends on your luck
The first nite spent in a tiny, narrow room, clean except for the carpet. Bed very clean, good TV, bathroom clean, but so small you can't (literally) turn around in it, though shower is quite big enuf. View, rather dingy court and backs of other buildings. Closet paper ripped, cheapest of cheap Goodwill night table, desk is a shelf, armoire also Goodwill vintage, but smells ok (not musty). WOrst was elevator right next to room, and THIN walls, so could hear every word spoken in room on other side. Check out your room before settling - you may have a choice of rooms, if hotel's not full. Second nite better - the kind man at desk upgraded me to a bigger room, much more comfy, bed very clean and comfortable, and bathroom more spacious. Great location, close to tram and bus lines. Quiet enuf at night. Good for short stay, small budget.

Run down.
I was happy enough with our stay here. The bathroom was very clean, but the room was quite run down. I doubt the carpet had been changed in 20 years. The front desk clerk was very nice while checking us in after midnight. It was quiet and there were two outlets for our electronics. The neighborhood is mostly residential and not too far from a tram stop. We also stayed at the Ideal Hotel a few blocks away and that is the place I recommend to friends (they were full for our last night, thus the visit to Villa Du Maine) particularly since the rate was about the same (in August).

Not Complaining but...
It wasn't a fancy hotel, not at all. It's exactly how you would imagine a cheap old Parisian hotel, but it was private, and I was only in my room to sleep. It wasn't bad and I had my own private bathroom. It was about 5 euros away from train station, and not that far of a walk, when you're not carrying anything.

Worth it.
The hotel was nice for its value. It was close to metro/tram stations, so if you bought a day pass, you could see the major landmarks without problems. There are plenty of little cafes around the area so you didn't have to walk far to find food if you wanted to keep it local.

More things
First of all it was looking for the hotel via tom tom cause several streets where closed for maintenaince. You have to pay 28 euro for your car to park in a garage outherwise you have to pay every 2 ours for the hotel, but the difficult when tou are in the city, not very wise from the hotel. The rooms lookt like the where maintenaince, hairs in bed, ground was dirty, en the door from the closed fell out of it. Beds very very hard, breakfast to expensive for the price. The fictures you see on internet are fake. This hotel may NOT be rated for 3 stars. Never again.

Cheap, good value for money but unhelpful manager
Ok for short business trip, no frills but ok value for money. Was quite convenient for me as I had a business appointment around the corner. Very inconvenient for travel as there is hardly a taxi in sight or to be goten by telephone. Took me ages to cathc one to the railway station and the hotel manager just left me high and dry to my own devices, advising me to take myself and the luggage to the main street and flag down a taxi. Thanks you very much ! Otherwise the hoel is ok, 5th floor (with lift) was very quiet, rooms spartan and tiny but very comfortable mattress. Bathroom tiny and functional, bit of mould in the shower but otherwise ok. Breakfast fine, nothing special but enough to start the day. Great restaurants Sushi, Italian, Arabic, etc,) within short walking distance.

We were more than pleased with our stay at Hotel Villa du Maine. It was a little bit difficult to find, as it was on a smaller street that wasn't on all maps, but the staff were easily able to provide us with directions in English. The neighbourhood was lovely and clean, and even had some amenities open later in the evening. The room itself exceeded our expectations (nice big bathroom and comfy bed!) and seemed to be nice and clean. I would recommend this hotel, and would definitely stay there again.
