"Needlessly complicated check in process - why did I have to supply my ID? There is no UK legal requirement for this and most places don't do it. "They need to upgrade their fire alarm system. A known fault of the alarm going off when someone showers at 0630 on a Sunday is not welcomed. But what is more disturbing is that the alarm was cancelled within in seconds, on the basis they "knew" is was the shower. There was no way that someone physically checked two floors above reception that the cause of the alarm was a shower. Guests did not know whether to excavate or not. This needs to be addressed immediately."

"I'm confused by the 10/10 reviews making New Continental Hotel out to be the Hilton. The staff were friendly and accomodating, however the room I had was small, the beds even smaller, the decor dated, the curtains from the 90s covered in cobwebs, the carpet in dire need of a clean, the TV antenna didn't work, the bathroom very basic and most surfaces in need of a coat of paint of replacing. The single pane windows kept out no noise, which due to the busy road outside was very noisy with the local boy racers and motorbikes at all hours. On the second night of my stay there was a 'footballers presentation' event downstairs, meaning lots of shouting and swearing outside the window until gone 11pm, which wasn't great for my 6 year old. The room was also like a sauna, owing to no A/C or ventilation, except the useless windows. Breakfast was ok, and I just about got into the last parking space on the Saturday night. There are better options around."

"Scaffolding surrounded the building throughout our stay, which significantly obstructed the view. In addition, the lift was repeatedly out of service, causing considerable inconvenience. The room itself felt dated and was not of the standard we expected for the price paid. There were visible stains on both the floor and the chairs, which negatively impacted the overall cleanliness and comfort of the stay. We were also required to move rooms because the window in our original room had recently been painted shut, making it impossible to open. This presented a clear health and safety concern. Unfortunately, the replacement room appeared to be of a lower standard, with a much smaller window and an overall downgrade in quality. Given these issues, we do not feel the stay represented good value for money and would therefore like to request a refund or appropriate compensation for the experience."
