We were looking for a clean, comfortable hotel that still felt like it was in Cambodia for our first couple nights in the country, and Okay Guesthouse was perfect. Those fancypants hotels could be anywhere, and the money rarely stays in the country, so places like this are ethically better. That being said, on our last night before leaving we went for a "nice" one, and agreed that Okay Guesthouse was better.
(If you do opt for a fancypants place, we stopped by the Okay Boutique, this place's sister hotel, and it looked absolutely gorgeous, and the staff were incredibly nice, just as they were at the Guesthouse.)
We didn't realize until later that they'd given us probably the worst room in the hotel, but it was still good by us. (But we're backpackers. If you need 70,000 sheets you should stay somewhere else.)
