"Truth be told…Carlin Villa in Carlinville, Illinois was not our first choice. But trying to stay at the specific places we were looking at on Route 66 proved fruitless. I found Carlin Villa on a lark and was able to book a room without a problem. When reaching out to express that we were on our honeymoon, and if they could do anything special, the owner said, “…we give one room, one bed.” I am not quite sure what she meant by that, but OK.
We arrived on the later side and after spending about 10 miles on a dark road, we discovered that Carlin Villa is, in fact, on Route 66. It just happens to be on one of the iterations that we were not previously aware of, but it made the second choice more palatable.
And the accommodations were better than expected. The room was exceptionally large, especially for a motor lodge and was one of the many rooms that had access from an interior hallway rather than an exterior entrance. There was a large gathering room at the end of the motel lobby with a fireplace and some sofas.
The rooms were a bit “dated” and appeared to need some attention in the bathroom.
But it was definitely a place that was kept in that time capsule of the past and it was clean. Definitely a place to stay and definitely a place when a second choice turns out to be the best choice."
"When we walked the young lady that was at the front desk was slumped over the chair asleep. We woke her up. Then it took forever to get checked in and the girl was not very friendly. But our checkout experience was great. The woman there was very courteous and we was checked out very quickly. Beds were very comfortable and room was clean"
Holiday Inn Express and Suites Alton St Louis Area by IHG
6/10 Okay
"This was the 2nd time I stayed at this particular hotel. Both times I was not impressed. I stayed at the same hotel about an hour away in Festus, Missouri several months back and it was phenomenal. This hotel in Alton, Illinois, on the other hand, was not. I called early in the morning requesting an early check-in. The man on the phone, Tristan, said that it would not be an issue and I could check in at 11:30. I arrived at 11:45. Tristan was still there. He said a room was not available yet and to check back at 12:30 or 1. I explained to him the reason for the early check in. All he wanted to talk about was why he was having a stressful morning. I stuck around until 12:30 and checked back with him. He is still there, but this time another person is there. I explained to her why I needed an early check-in. She apologized and proceeded to go to the housekeeping staff to attempt to accommodate me. At about 1 the room was ready and I proceeded to check in. Tristan again was rude and not helpful. I accidentally handed him my credit card and he replied "driver's license, question mark." So I get checked in and head to my room. The toilet did not work properly. Luckily, I never had to use it the 2 days I stayed. The hotel was not very clean. Floors always needed to be mopped the entire time. I go up there often. So looks like I will be trying another hotel the next time. Time to give the Hampton a chance. Everyone else was ok, but definitely not overly nice the way I expect staff."
"E.joyed all thr staff. Lovely rooms and overall facility.
When a.place is sold oit almost every night you know it is good.
Great breakfast and soft blankets."
"The staff was very kind and helpful! Breakfast had a good variety and was tasty as well. The room was clean but worn. The bed and bedding was not the best, mattress was very firm and the bedding was not the softest. It was great they allowed pets! Would def still stay again if ever need to."
