Port Discovery

Port Discovery featuring interior views and a playground
This fantastic interactive museum is a wonderland of make believe, learning and physical activity aimed at children up to 10 years of age.

Taking the kids to a museum is usually a recipe for a moan-filled afternoon, but a trip to this 3-storey institution in Baltimore is guaranteed to keep even the fussiest of children happy for hours.

Port Discovery is designed and built especially for youngsters from 2 to 10 years of age and is packed full of educational programmes and fun activities. The core of the building is formed by a huge climbing structure which is surrounded by an array of different playgrounds and interactive exhibits to suit children of all dispositions.

Active kids are very well catered for and will be entertained for hours in the monster urban tree house that spans all three levels. The Kick It Up! exhibit is another sporty option where budding stars can show off their skills in an indoor soccer stadium that doubles as an exercise hall.

Other professions are also explored at Port Discovery: budding detectives can try to put the clues together to figure out what became of the missing Baffeld family in the mystery house, while future scientists can do their very own experiments in the Nano exhibit. Indiana Jones fans can journey into Ancient Egypt in search of a pharaoh’s lost tomb while the Wonders of Water is a world of aquatic fun – just make sure you pack some spare clothes!

Younger kids are also well catered for and can explore mini versions of many of Maryland’s landmarks in Tot Trails as well as a miniature roadside market at Harvest Hill. The Oasis is the place to come when everyone’s worn out this room is full of pillows, books and games, perfect for relaxing with the whole family.

Port Discovery is open every day and is located in the Power Plant Live! district, close by to Baltimore’s Inner Harbour. There are plenty of public transport connections and paid parking available on site. Tickets are a little pricey, so plan to stay for the day to get your money’s worth. The best time to visit is during the afternoon on school days or Sundays when it’s least crowded.
