Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course

Cally Palace Hotel & Golf Course

8/10 Good
"The entrance way to the hotel was stunning, the road was a fair distance with woodland on both sides and arriving at the hotel frontage gave a very regal impression of days gone by. At the reception, we were welcomed by two staff members one of whom booked us in with our reservation and the other showed us to our room and talked us through the hotel and showed us the facilities (pool, gymโ€ฆ etc..) the room was more than average size with more than a king-size bed, en-suite, four chairs, two bureau areas, a long unit with tea, coffee etc a wall mounted tv, a balcony that over looked the golf course, on the down side no room fridge which for a hotel of such standing is a poor show. The hotel bar is well-stocked with plenty of areas to relax, and it also has a full-size snooker table for your enjoyment. The breakfast had everything you could want to help start your day. All the staff were always happy to assist in any way needed. The hotel overall is good however it is looking a bit tired in its decoration, the carpets have seen better days. A hotel of this standing and its past history are clearly missing a trick of not using multiple Scottish tartans for different areas of carpets around the hotel and naming each room/area with the tartan used that name and giving visitors even more history into the wonders of Scotland, but overall we had a most enjoyable stay at the Cally Palace"

The Ship Inn

The Ship Inn

10/10 Excellent
"Second stay at the Ship Inn, room is perfect, breakfast excellent. Food is terrific although the restaurant was almost full (apparently it usually isโ€ฆ) and this perhaps reflected in the service last night. Example, we were finished our starters and had to chase our drinks. But granted restaurant was very busy. Would certainly use again if opportunity arises."

The Kenmuir Arms Hotel

The Kenmuir Arms Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Kenmuir Arms hotel. Located in a wee picturesque village we found the staff friendly and accommodating. Room one was very clean with a very comfortable king-sized bed and the shower had great water pressure. Highly recommend the creative food prepared by international Chef-Patron Christopher Dougan (recently awarded in February 2025 Scotland's Dining Discovery of the Year and 5 AA Gold Stars and 2 AA Rosettes). Every meal was creatively prepared with local ingredients and fine dining flair, yet not overly pretentious. Chef was very accommodating for my request for gluten-free tasting menu at dinner. Every dish was delicious and it was a delight to not know what dish was coming next. The full Scottish breakfast with homemade sausage, black pudding, and haggis was a great way to start each day. The pub had selections of local beer and spirits. We were visiting the area to see Sam Heughanโ€™s Galloway Distillery. It was a treat every afternoon to have drinks made with Harbor Hills Gin and Sassanach Vodka on the patio near a babbling brook and a stone bridge."
