"Property is self catering house at edge of the town. Spacious and decent kitchen. Road quiet (liked that) and easy access to nature reserve/countryside walks. Parking a bit of an issue but didn’t detract from our stay. "

"The staff, especially Reception and a young blonde-haired lady who had only been there about 3 weeks were exceptional. Having the bar & the restaurant on the top floor is a bit odd, but it is comfortable. The food in the restaurant was very poor as was the quality of the wine. The gentleman acting as Maitre was brusque, untidy and unwelcoming. We booked our table for 7 and were prompt. But he wanted us to have courses in rapid succession. When we asked for a pause his response was that it was already cooked so we needed to have it then. We were invited to look at the pudding menu at 8.15 and asked if we could please have a little break, bearing in mind that dining didn’t start until 7 pm. He told us if we wanted dessert we would have to order as the kitchen closed at 8.30. We declined pudding. This is supposed to be a 4-star hotel - and everything about it is 4-star. However, I would not give the dining room one star. Sitting in reception in the afternoon waiting for my friend to arrive, who was also staying at the hotel, I heard a lot of people going out to dine and booking Uber. I now know why. There were very few people- perhaps 6-8 dining at the hotel on Thursday evening, which speaks for itself. I felt very unwelcome, rushed and uncomfortable. When meeting friends to dine - it’s lively to chat and linger over each course. We were given an hour and a half to eat all 3 courses. Most of which were inedible anyway. Such a pity.
