"A really great and unique experience that was different to the usual B&B offering. Room, breakfast and people were all excellent and would recommend a visit if in Winchester. Thanks! Neal"
"The property was basic, as expected, but the host's behavior was shockingly unprofessional and erratic. After honestly correcting a simple booking mistake (one guest instead of two) and promptly offering payment, the host initially seemed polite but slow to respond.
Things turned serious when I accidentally locked myself out of the bedroom—without shoes or phone—and urgently contacted him via my smartwatch. He claimed he'd arrive in an hour but vanished for hours, ignoring multiple calls....
"The Fox is an excellent B&B with attached first class dining. The staff were great about our late arrival due to M3 closure, phoning to get our breakfast order and being prepared to leave a key for us. Breakfast is one of the best in Winchester."
"The check in lady was nice once I could reach her. I had to ask a guest in the garden restaurant to call the number for me so we could check in and then again to get the wifi code. The room was above a pub that played loud music until well after midnight. The door knob on the bathroom was broken and a family member got locked in there until we found the broken piece of the knob to open the door. "

The Winchester Hotel & Spa
10/10 Excellent
"Informal, buzzy hotel with lovely, friendly and efficient staff. Had an issue with our room and quickly moved. We booked basic twin but would go for the club in future as more roomy and modernised. Dog friendly hotel, dogs I think are booked into the ground floor rooms.
Menus in bar and restaurant which are right next door to each other are good for allergies. I’m GF but had no problem. Pool is small and busy but all one depth and not too deep. Well maintained and you can’t get in without filling in a form, being a guest or a member. Didn’t have time for a treatment. Hotel parking is limited, saw some charging points. We parked in front of hotel reception in the public car park which was fine about £7 a day I think? There is a short walk to the Cathedral, shops and even nearer for the theatre. Slopey rather than hilly. Good location. We felt safe there. Good shopping! Will book again. "
"There was no tourist info or writing note paper or pencil in the room. The bathroom wash basin waste water would not drain properly. Blocked wast pipe. "
"We had a lovely stay here--the room and breakfast were both delightful and we enjoyed the gorgeous garden. We especially appreciated how kind and welcoming Dotty was. The perfect place to stay in Winchester!"
He claimed he'd arrive in an hour but vanished for hours, ignoring multiple calls. Desperate and out of options, I dangerously climbed the side of the building to re-enter.
When he finally responded, it was coldly transactional: "I can come now you need to pay £30." Minutes after I politely clarified payment details, his tone became aggressive and threatening, repeatedly calling me a "coward" and threatening police involvement. He spammed me with calls, ironic considering his earlier silence during a genuine emergency. The host's erratic, manipulative behavior severely impacted our final day, leaving us stressed and anxious, rushing to avoid missing our train.
This host is unstable, intimidating, and seemingly unsafe. I strongly advise against staying here.
