"Seven of us - two married couples and three solo individuals - stayed here while attending a function at Felsted School. We met at the hotel in the afternoon, some of us strangers to one another but others old friends; we met again at the hotel around 9pm for drinks, staying up till 1230am. In the morning, we all met again for an 0815 breakfast. The hotel helped the happy mood to keep becoming happier."

"Stayed one night in a single room with a large single bed which was fantastic. Great room, great shower, and a cracking breakfast in the morning with fantastic service from the lady who had amazing stories about her life and family. "

"The staff and food at dinner were lovely. Breakfast wasn’t run at quite the same standard with a lot of mistakes and delays on orders. The room was nice, although the finer details could do with a bit more attention (dust in corners, dirty grout in bathroom). Bed nice and comfy, unfortunately we were near the road so a bit noisy but that can’t be helped. The resident cats will wake you up early whilst they’re waiting for breakfast though if the traffic doesn’t! We were charged £25 extra for...

"We stayed for 2 nights in Room 3 which was beautiful, 11th century beams, large sleigh bed, slipper bath, en suite toilet. Clean, comfortable, nice toiletries, kettle and coffee maker, selection of teas etc. Lovely view of village and church. Breakfast delicious, dinner lovely also. Great place to stay. Good selection of wines, spirits and cocktails. Felt very luxurious and a real treat. Would happily stay again. "

"Free car park but quite small and tight. Stayed here twice and got a space ok both times. Rooms are small and basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was from 7am and was excellent. Staff very friendly. "

"staff are very helpful. The food was amazing, but there is a little room for improvement on the accommodation marks on the walls. TV aerial cable draped over light fittings, and personally I would’ve liked blackout curtains as the room was very illuminated from outside lighting. but that said I would definitely stay there again. "

"Really lovely venue. Rooms are surprisingly large, look smaller on the outside. Bed was comfortable. The pub had loads of character. The staff were really friendly too."

"Friendly and helpful staff. Comfortable room and bed. Quiet night. The stylish roll top bath needed a stool for access by customers with old joints!"

"Why do hotel designers think it is OK to have an ensuite bathroom with no door? A curtain is not an adequate replacement for a door. This was a big issue for us. Also the only seating in our room was 1 dining chair and 1 stool when there was room for something more comfortable. I don't want to have to sit on the bed, particularly at the price this hotel came in at. Everything else was very good."

"Chalet dated but very clean and well equipt. Fabulous location and we sat outside on the decking frequently. Very close to a main trainline into London but we knew this as visiting friends having previously lived in Broxbourne. Didn't bother us. Sofa not comfortable to sit & enjoy TV. Very hard. Only other negative was the twin beds. Despite the mattress toppers, the springs in the mattresses have gone. They do need replacing. Sadly we had an uncomfortable few nights sleep! "
