Serious health and safety concern — followed by unacceptable treatment from the owner First day staying in there our room had an extremely strong smell resembling cat urine or ammonia. We reported it, and staff attempted to treat the room with an unidentified chemical. Afterward, the chemical odour became overwhelming. When I took a shower, I began coughing uncontrollably and had to leave the room. I was left with a sore throat and headache following the exposure. We did not feel safe staying there and had to leave. It was extremely difficult to get hold of the owner. When I finally spoke with him and expressed my concern that the way the chemicals were being used was dangerous and could seriously harm someone, he called me names and cursed on me. We were told he was cooking in the restaurant downstairs, but he refused to come upstairs to assess the room or speak with us in person. He then told me that if I reported the incident, he would not refund our money. Threatening to withhold a refund because a guest intends to report a health and safety concern is completely unacceptable. It became a serious health concern, and the owner’s response made the situation considerably worse. Guests should never be placed in a recently chemically treated room without appropriate ventilation or information about the products used. We have requested the product name and SafetyDataSheet and are reporting the incident to the appropriate Québec authorities. Kudos to expedia to act so fast

Communication with staff owners is near impossible. I had a family emergency where my mother passed away and had to leave two days early and they were non-negotiable about any sort of refund and near impossible to reach
