The Pinacoteca San Domenico is a restored and former Roman Catholic church in the city of Fano, in the Provincia di Pesaro e Urbino, Le Marche region. The pinacoteca houses an amazing art collection that belongs to the famous Italian foundation Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Fano. Admire artworks from the 16th and 17th centuries in the very special atmosphere that the church offers.
The Dominican order arrived in Fano in the 13th century by the late 14th century they constructed a beautiful church in Gothic style. Over the years, additions were made to the building, such as the erection of a bell tower in 1485. At the beginning of the 18th century, the interior was modified as well and several Baroque altars were built.
This ancient building suffered great damaged during World War II. A large-scale restoration began in 2006. See the valuable religious art pieces that were discovered and restored during that process, such as a fresco that narrates the life of Saint John the Baptist.
