The family was absolutely lovely! So kind and accommodating. While there were some minor cleanliness issues, they immediately addressed them as soon as I asked with a very kind and apologetic attitude. The breakfast was simple and lovely and made fresh every day. The people we met while staying there were very interesting. For the price you cannot beat the view and the company!

This hotel has an excellent location. Loma Tranquila has the best view of the city from this beautiful mountain just minutes from Alajuela. Loma tranquila has absolutely amazing rooms very clean, quite and moder decoration. EXCELLENT customer service the owner is very friendly and helpful. I suggest Loma Tranquila for your vacation in Costa Rica at Loma Tranquila you will enjoy nature and the love of its staff.

I really enjoyed my time here — it was very relaxing. The most important part for me was that my flight got canceled twice because of the weather, so I missed the original days I had booked. When I spoke with the owner, she was accommodating and allowed me to stay the missed days later to make up for it. Everyone was very kind and welcoming. I felt safe the entire time and truly enjoyed my stay. I would definitely recommend it.

I will gladly recommend this property to anyone looking for a stay over near the capitol. Rosia the proprietress couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful. When my original flight was cancelled she had no hesitation whatsoever in moving the reservation over to my new arrival date. She was also helpful with arranging my visit to LaPaz, which was magnificent. The restaurant she recommended, ‘Mirror Of The Valley’, within walking distance, was also wonderful. If I could give her (and her daughters) 10 stars I would gladly do so. Frankly I’m hopeful that the occasion presents itself that I could stay with them again … I would not hesitate for a second. So my ‘sombrero’ is off to Loma Tranquilla and wish them great success in the years to come! Muchas gracias!

My room was very clean and nice. My bathroom was huge. The service was exceptional. The family that runs the hotel they are the most helpful friendliest and positive people that I have ran into in a long time my room was across from the pool and of course, it was beautiful, especially at night then you had the breathtaking views of the property when I say breathtaking, that is an understatement of how beautiful the property is. This is an absolute must and let’s not start with the cost. I did not expect what I walked into and I am so happy that’s where I ended up my trip turned out better than I expected. this hotel was perfect and I enjoyed every minute on this property because the views his self are so breathtaking. He just can’t get enough of it, so yes, you will be very happy that you stayed here

This is a great little budget friendly hotel with a spectacular view. My room was large with a balcony overlooking the central valley. I arrived before check in, but my room was ready, so I had immediate access. The folks running the hotel were kind and courteous and arranged a 6:00 am pick up so I could get to the airport. I was only there for an afternoon and overnight so didn't use the pool but others seemed happy with it. There is a restaurant within a 5 minute walk. I didn't explore the area, but chose the place for a short, peaceful stay with a view, and it delivered. It's about 25 minutes to the airport. Please, if you book, realize it's a family run hotel and not a 5 star resort.

On airplane route so quite noisey, no tea/coffee/ water facilities in room, nil fridge, breakfast minimal with no variety only hot drink option nil water and only 1 hr from 8-9am - started late sometimes as well, pillows had mildew on, top blanket dirty, tidy room but on inspection dirty, the view was amazing! Staff friendly but actually don’t understand English well, tried asking activities in area many times but no help even with translator. I wouldn’t stay here again.

I really enjoyed my stay at Loma Tranqila! The Hostess, her Daughters and the woman working on the property were all very nice and attentive. This was my 1st time in Costa Rica and I wanted an authentic experience off of the beaten path. I wanted to live amongst costa rican people people away from all the tourist hype. This place gave me that feeling. It is up in the hills and you get a million dollar view of San Jose on the property. I would recommend that anyone staying here have a car. There isn't much to walk to close by. Maybe one restaurant a few blocks away. The property is more of a bed and breakfast style place. The room was ok but I wasn't in costa rica to stay in the room. I just needed a base point to lay my head and store my things safely without breakingthe bank. This place provided that. The only place I found for less on Expedia was shared space and I didnt want that! I do wish they had a mini fridge and a microwave in the room but I understand. Food brings bugs! The hostess can make food to order until 930pm and they do sell snacks on the property by the pool. The hostess recommended some activities close by that I could drive to and enjoy. I would 100% stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a unique un-touristy experience.

Great host, very helpful and an amazing cook . The place is awesome, great location, very comfortable, great view. We had Rosy’s breakfast several times, She is amazing and her room service dinner are price very reasonable. Rosy’s Fry fish was the best we have had. Awesome in every way. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE.

Loma Tranquila was a solid overnight stay before an early flight. The owner was on-site and incredibly attentive — she was there to open the gate when we arrived and up early the next morning to see us out. She was very kind and welcoming and took the time to show us the room. The building itself is historic and has a lot of character, sitting at the very top of a mountain. The amenities are aged and it’s not a luxury stay, but the location is unique and the view from the balcony is incredible — you can see all of San José spread out below. It worked well for one night and did exactly what we needed. One thing to note: it was very difficult to find food nearby after 9 p.m., so plan ahead.

Place is run down, they advertise a fully equiped kitchen which had a microwave, coffee maker, 2 burner stove but absolutly nothing else... no dishes, cooking ware, ustensils, sponge or soap.... Cabinets were screwed shut. Freezer barely cooled, fridge did not work at all. Windows could not be opened. No AC. Chairs were so unsafe to sit on. Sofa spring system unexisting, needed help to get out of it. Bed was a home made construction. Not sure where they got the name from but it was loud. Our entry door as well as the neigbors were clear glass so that we could look in each others place. We had booked the place for 5 days, we left after one night:( Owner is fed up of the place, she separate from her husband and try to handle the 23 rooms by herself. She stated unwilling to invest anything more and want to sell it to move to Switzerland!

emotion and facts intact. You can copy-paste this as is: This hotel was worse than terrible. It was dirty, smelly, and completely misrepresented. The photos on Expedia are clearly filtered and do not reflect the actual condition of the property. I have photos that prove how filthy and unsafe this place is, and I will post them if the platform allows it. The toilets were old, yellow, and visibly dirty. The room door did not even fit the frame properly—the top was open, and the bottom of the door was smaller than the frame, making the room feel extremely unsafe. I arrived on December 11, 2025, and left the same day—within 30 minutes of checking in—because the conditions were unacceptable and unsafe. We did not stay at the hotel at all. I requested a refund, but it was refused by the hotel. I sent the photos to Expedia so they could see the true condition of this place, yet I was told that the hotel still refused to issue a refund. I have traveled the world and have used Expedia for all my trips, but I have never experienced anything this terrible. This is by far the worst hotel I have ever encountered. Expedia should be aware of the quality of this property, as it should not be listed in its current condition.

A bitter sweet visit at loma tranqill

million dollar view .nice place to stay, very far from the city, great service ,good people. enjoy nature cons very old furniture ,smells muggy in entire house. Poor ventilation no sun light inside.,Wi-Fi did not work for entire day., there was a construction going on at the property and they start working very early so you can't sleep properly.

The room was very nice and i appreciated the courtesy of the staff. Breakfast was small but delicious and enough to get you out and about for the day.
