Awesome old hospital building, great kitchen area and overall atmosphere. Rooms and bathrooms are very nice. Check in was super easy, too. We had some bad weather during our stay so we and our little one really appreciated all the toys and games they have.

Great place to stay! The staff was helpful and friendly. The room was clean and comfortable, with sauna and steam rooms on site. The area was so beautiful with close walking access to the town center, walking trails, and waterfront.

We booked a double room with private bathroom, and the quality of the room was comparable or even better than a 3-star hotel. The hostel's communal areas (kitchen, bathrooms, lounge areas) were clean, cosily furnished, and very well-equipped. There was a strong personal touch to the decor, signage and overall experience. Really enjoyed our stay!

A nice hostel, that provided us with a charming room with private bathroom. The common area facilities were impressive (for example the kitchen). Staff were helpful in providing information. Perhaps the only comment to make was that the bathroom was a bit too basic and simple, but was no big deal, especially when you consider everything else.

100% best hostel I've stayed in yet. Everything was top shape, v clean and in great condition, place is really spacious so even if there are a lot of people u have space to eat & relax (and park). Dorm was really spacious and well equipped, with a sink and wardrobe (only 4 beds in my room!). Extremely welcoming. Benedikta was so nice to move my reservation a night later due to bad weather and was v v kind and hospitable. Just wish I could've stayed longer!

Cute historic property, super cute village and centrally located. We had a private en-suite room which was upstairs and it had a stellar view. Walls thin so bring earplugs!! And there is no elevator so pack light

Our room 114 was on the hall way to kitchen so it was noisy even after 22:30 into the night. The kitchen should have 2 sinks, paper towels, and drip coffee maker.

This hostel is okay. When i first checked in, they had indicated a self check in was sent but nothing was sent. Albeit i booked through hotels.com, everything seemed disorganized. Upon my arrival and waiting 10 min, i had to ask someone in the halls can i check in. I was instructed to just check my name on a list and head up to my room, no showing of the hostel where things are, no understanding of a key, nothing. Additionally one of the nights we had a situation of a horrid snorer. Many of us departed the room to sleep in our cars therefore not utilizing the amenities. I requested a refund and although she was willing too she was unable to initiate one. This was not the concern. The whole time she kept reinforcing "something that is not under our control or fault" even though i had politely stated I understand it is not their fault, it is still their responsibility to refund non-use of their facilities. It was just a belittling conversation the whole time with management for something i understood already. Also signs all over the hostel state "dont slam doors", but there is a family in this hostel with kids so expect kids screaming and slamming doors well into midnight and talking into the early hours.

dear guest, again I´m very sorry for the very unfortunate situation that a person that snores booked a dorm and checked in very late came and made your stay so unbearable. To be clear, we were never called and nobody tried to contact us to do anything about this situation when it occured, despite the phone number being clearly advertised in our reception. This was out of our control. We have a very good and easy self check in system for guests that arrive outside our reception hours, where there is an explanation of how keys work and where you find all information. I´m sorry for your bad experience and again hope that you recovered and that you enjoyed your overall experience in Iceland. I did try to compensate you with a complimentary breakfast in our associated hostel that you couldn´t accept so we did try to find a way. I assure you that our guests are extremely satisfied overall in our hostel and we strive to make our very best every day. Good thoughts to you, Hafaldan staff.

Cool runs-itself-hostel
Totally green, honor-based, clean hostel with a cool history. I never saw anyone at reception, even at check in, but they seemed to have a system down that works! Lovely room, cozy hotel, sauna was a big plus!

Not bad, but be aware of what you are getting.
First off, I should state that I had never stayed in a hostel before so I did not know exactly what to expect. If you like hostels, this review isn’t for you. If you aren’t sure, allow me to steer you elsewhere. My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon simply to have access to laundry facilities. We should have gone to a laundromat instead. Firstly because laundry was 1500 ISK and secondly because it was not worth the rest of the cost. The hostel smelled strongly of food and was visibly dirty. There is a “take your shoes off at the door” policy which we found unclean. The room had two sets of curtains and neither did much of anything to block the midnight sun. Upon check out, guests are expected to strip the bed and put the linens and towels in hampers. We were left wondering why staying here cost us as much as it did (surprisingly one of the more expensive stays of our 14-day trip). Overall, if you like hostels then I am sure this one will appeal to you. If you aren’t sure and can find elsewhere to do laundry, I definitely recommend that. If nothing else, we definitively learned that we are not the hostel kind.

Things to note: no elevator so keep in mind you will be carrying your belongings up a flight of stairs, walls and doors are thin so noise carries, keep toilet seat closed or septic smell leaks into room, take shoes off at front desk.

We stayed in a private room with a private bathroom. The Bedroom and bathroom were both large with super high ceilings. The property is absolutely beautiful with a ton of charm. The staff is super helpful and nice.

Memorable stay
It was nice to stay in one of the most charming buildings in this really cute town. Used to be the town’s hospital. It’s now a hostel but they also offer some private rooms. Located in the hearth of the town. You’ll get useful information from management before your stay. Super clean.
