A park with a tulip garden, a pond, and people walking.

The quaint little town of Soest is situated to the northeast of Utrecht. The town is surrounded by nature, ponds and woods and is the perfect place to relax for a few days.

You can go horse riding with the whole family, mountain biking, cycling or on long walks through the woods. In town, you can enjoy the weather at a sidewalk café or relax at one of the cosy cafés. Thanks to its convenient location, it’s easy to pop over to Utrecht or Amersfoort for a few hours of shopping.

The town started in the 11th century as a little hamlet and was a modest farming settlement until the 18th century. After the railway and a few roads were built people started moving out of the big cities in search of tranquillity. Today Soest is surrounded by countryside with pastures in the northeast and woods and dunes in the south.

One of Soest's main points of interest is the Nationaal Militair Museum (National Military Museum), which is located in an impressive building with a huge roof and glass walls. The museum is home to an interesting collection of tanks and airplanes. Soest also has lovely shopping streets and sidewalk cafés.

Combine your time in town with a visit to Soestduinen, a lovely nature reserve. DierenPark Amersfoort (Amersfoort Zoo) is very close and a great place to take the kids. Openluchttheater Cabrio is a great place to spend a summer evening. And of course you can't leave before you’ve been to the Loosdrechtse Plassen, an absolute must for nature lovers.

Go horse riding at sundown or for a walk in the woods with your kids and take in the great flora and fauna. The nature around Soest is very diverse and the perfect place to spend a day outdoors. The centre of town is nice and compact and easy to get around on foot.

Whether you take the train or the bus or decide to drive, Soest's central location makes is easy to reach from anywhere in the Netherlands. Motorists will be pleased to know that parking in the city centre is free, although there are a few places where you will need a parking disc.

Discover the beautiful nature, the compact town centre and the options for exciting daytrips around this centrally located town.

"A very nicely located and well maintained hotel. Friendly staff. Dogs are welcome, but normally you get something extra like for example a rug or so. Consider considering the nightly cost for the dog. It would have been nice to see a small gesture."
