"We had an amazing stay at this hotel! The hotel itself is very charming, and the location is beautiful. Still, the best part was the staff, and in particular Duncan and Anna. They were so friendly and really did their best to take care of us. It was actually a bit sad to leave! I can definitely recommend the hotel, and I hope to stay here again another time!"
"I want to start by saying that the staff at this hotel are excellent. The hotel itself is another story. We were originally assigned room 26, and all I can say is if you are given this room, ask for another. I should point out that I do have mobility issues, and certainly this made the problem worse, however the floors are so uneven in this room that it was almost impossible for me to walk without tripping. There is a huge dip in the floor in front of the sink, and a really awkward step to get out of the shower. There is a small sitting area when you walk in, but then an additional flight of stairs to get to the bedrooms. The 'decor' of this room felt like something out of a horror movie, but that is another story entirely. To the credit of the staff, when I asked to be moved for our second night, they were very accommodating and offered us another room with 'nice flat floors'. That room was 100 times better, and had been renovated, but still nothing special. I only saw these 2 rooms, so can not comment on any others, but I feel, especially room 26 should not be rented out until it has been renovated. Overall, I feel this hotel was very overpriced for what we got. I do feel bad leaving this review because, as I said, the staff are excellent, but we booked based on the positive reviews of other travellers, and I just did not have the same experience. We stayed in several hotels on our holiday, and unfortunately this was the worst one. I can not recommend this hotel."
"This hotel is pretty dated and in need of upgrades and attention to detail. The flowers throughout are plastic which is a shame. Aside from the location, there is nothing special about the property. Our room for 350 GBP per night was tiny with a double bed filling most of the space. Our two suitcases covered close to the rest of the floor. I would have not liked to stay more than 1 night. The bathroom was basic and there was a good amount of water on the floor after showering since the glass panel was defective. The food was good but definitely too expensive. The best part of our stay was talking to the falconer and watching the birds of prey. Comparing this hotel to some others in the area, the rates are definitely too high. In total, we spent 630 GBP for a tiny, dated room for one night with breakfast, dinner and a few drinks."
"The property was clean and as expected for a 3 star.
Unfortunately we could not communicate with the host the day before checkin and the day of checkin. We escalated the day before with Expedia because the phone numbers did not work. The cell provided on checkin instructions rung someone in UK, he had no clue what I was asking. The land line number never answered. We also sent an email morning of checkin to Sykes cottages, no response. I sent a message using the contact property feature in Expedia desperately saying we would be there at 5pm please provide key pickup instructions. There was never a reply.
I escalated through Expedia at 5:05 day of checkin. The agent had the same issues I did tin contacting the host. He finally console of someone at Sykes Cottages (property managers I assume). But they would not give the agent the key pickup info. It was the same number for Sykes Cottages that I was already using. The only way I got an agent at Sykes was by lying and saying I had to pay for something. The person who answered was great and she was able to get hold of the host and I got the lock box combo for me.
The host told the agent that I must not be dialing the +44 properly, blaming me. I was failing properly which is how I got hold of Sykes Cottages.
Terrible host communication, highly stressful, avoid booking this cottage just for that reason alone. Brutal experience not knowing if we had somewhere to sleep at 6pm in Staffin (far from other options."
"The cabin was outfitted well and very well organized. It had everything we needed. The host left scones which were delicious and very thoughtful. The area is remote and quiet, exactly what we were looking for"
