"I recently stayed at San Diego Mission Bay Resort and had mixed feelings about the experience.
The property is beautiful, and my top-floor room had a great view. The resort generally looks like the photos, although the grounds felt much smaller in person than expected.
Check-in was disappointing. I arrived early and waited about 15 minutes to be helped despite being the only guest in line. It appeared staff were being trained during the process, which made the experience feel disorganized. I was also surprised by the $40 early check-in fee if a room was available.
I knew about the $46 daily resort fee before arriving, but I didn’t feel the included amenities (Wi-Fi, pool towels, pickleball and tennis courts, etc.) justified the cost.
The on-site dining was expensive. One mimosa and two shrimp tacos with no sides came to nearly $50 after tax and tip. Service was also slow, and I waited about 10 minutes to be seated on a Thursday morning with very few guests around.
The room was nice overall, but there was leftover takeout food in the refrigerator from a previous guest. The bathroom was extremely small, and bottled water in the room cost $8 per bottle.
One bright spot was the employee working in the coffee shop. I didn’t get her name, but she was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and provided the best customer service I experienced during my stay.
Beautiful views, but the service, housekeeping oversight, food prices, would make me choose a different property in the future."
