"The Scottish Inn used to be a run-down and poorly-maintained mom-and-pop motel called The Nomad. The current owners have completely overhauled and modernized the establishment. Now the rooms are up-to-date, clean, attractive, well-furnished and comfortable. This is not a high-end-luxury area. However, for travelers looking for an economical place to stay that is close to practical retail and dining establishments, the Scottish in is an excellent choice. A Walmart store is just one minute up the road to the west. A tasty down-home restaurant called Eben’s Hearth is just a couple minutes away in the other direction. Gas stations, additional practical stores and eateries can be found by driving into Potsdam, crossing the bridge on the left and going north toward the retail strip on outer Market Street. Downtown Potsdam is very small and most of the beautiful historic storefronts are empty. This area would be a perfect spot for an arts festival looking for a location. There is a beautiful park next to the river. This is a college town for students from working-class families.
