"I travel frequently and am comfortable staying in modest hotels as long as they are clean and safe. Unfortunately, The Capitol Hotel in Hartford raised serious safety concerns and appears to be significantly misrepresented online.
The property does not resemble the photos on Expedia. The exterior is extremely run down, and the covered entrance had large holes in the roof with exposed pipes and roofing material hanging down, giving the immediate impression that the building is poorly maintained.
My daughter arrived around 11 PM after a late flight. When she entered the lobby there were multiple people sleeping on the floor and in chairs, and she overheard the front desk telling someone without a room that they could sleep in the lobby for the night. This did not feel like a safe or properly managed environment for guests arriving late at night.
While the room appeared old but generally clean, the bed was two box springs with only a thin mattress topper instead of a proper mattress, which is completely unacceptable and clearly not what is represented online. The listing also advertises a fitness center, but the front desk confirmed there is no gym. The television only received one channel. These issues reflect clear misrepresentation of the amenities advertised on Expedia.
When I arrived the next morning, I was so concerned by the property conditions that we immediately checked out and left.
Travelers should be aware that the actual conditions of this property"
"Our stay was horrendous. This was my third year in a row booking a room here. The first year was an average stay, not great but not bad. Last year was weird.. like shady characters hanging around and the elevators were broken down (staff didn’t even bother letting us know at check in) so we were hauling luggage up and down stairs. The cheaper price had me booking a third year in spite of these minor things. But never again. DO NOT STAY HERE! I wouldn’t stay here if it was free. Or if it was the last holdout in a zombie apocalypse. You would be better off taking your chances in a zombie camp. If you DO decide to book, don’t assume there will be any amenities available - even the most basic things. Swimming pool is condemned, fitness center is closed, breakfast is a joke and hit or miss if they even open it. If they do open up for breakfast, expect a waffle or piece of toast and shriveled up apples. Towels for the bathroom? Good luck. We had to ask repeatedly for them, had to explain why we needed a third towel (3 people in a room with double beds?! Hello?), told no, sent on a hunting expedition for them, and they even had the audacity to tell us we needed to bring down our dirty towels first. There are clearly people living here. There’s trash everywhere. Expect bags of trash and dirty diapers lining the hallways. Plan on pinching your nose so you don’t suffocate on the overwhelming stench of weed through at least the whole floor. This place should actually be shut down. "
Days Inn by Wyndham Windsor Locks / Bradley Intl Airport
2/10 Terrible
"The bathtub was dirty and the office was nasty. It seems like the room hasn’t even been touched besides the bed. I wanted one night to sleep so I can fly out the next day, I couldn’t even take a shower."
"First I got into the room and it didn’t have a microwave or a mini fridge. The pictures when I booked the room had both in the pic. The room had a bad smell to it. Smelled bad like smoke and dirty clothes. The mirror was broken. The toilet seat was disgusting. It was peeling or looked like it was once panted. Bathroom exhaust fa didn’t work. The tv was broken, looked like there was discoloration in the screen. And the remote didn’t work. Garbage all over the property and dog crap everywhere. I will never stay at a motel 6 again! "
