A holiday to Strand in Rogaland allows you to experience a municipality that has enjoyed steady growth in recent years. There is a great range of leisure activities on offer both at sea and on land. Stavanger is also close by and offers plenty of urban activities.

The municipality of Strand has two towns, Tau and Jørpeland, with a combined population of just over 12,000. The area is well known for being quite rural, but the proximity to Stavanger still makes it attractive to many. In recent years, the municipality has invested a lot in tourism, and local attractions, such as the nearby Preikestolen Cliff, are fantastic places to visit.

If you’re into hiking and mountaineering, a trip to Strand offers a great variety of hiking opportunities. Head out to the area’s highest peak, Heiahornet, where the views of the area are simply breathtaking. Relax with a game of golf at Preikestolen Golfklubb, situated in Jøssang. If travelling with children, head to the Tjøstheim ridesenter, where there are plenty of opportunities for children to go pony riding.

When visiting the area, make sure to visit Jørpeland Farm, which dates back to 1883. Stavanger can be accessed by both boat and ferry from Tau. You can also drive to Stavanger, but the journey takes about an hour and a half. Having access to a car is also quite useful, especially if you’d like to travel around the area at your own pace.

The closest airport is Stavanger, which has regular flights from many European cities. You can also access the area by sea, including by speedboat. The municipality spans about 77square miles, and the main thoroughfare is Norwegian Road 13.

Even though Strand is a rural municipality, there is plenty to see and do for international visitors. The area offers lots of outdoor activities and sights to visit, and Strand’s proximity to Stavanger makes it easy to combine a holiday with a visit to a great nearby urban city.
