Lack of car parking and no lift to upper floors caused significant inconvenience as did the change of breakfast serving times without notice. The stair carpet was so frayed as to be highly dangerous. Conveniently positioned for the theatre and the restaurants of Sheep Street. Comfortable bed, good bed linen and towels, decent shower, but our room was in total darkness due to a broken Roman blind which we managed to partially raise ourselves using lengths of twine. Reporting this on check in it remained in attended throughout our three night stay.

This hotel used to be shabby chic and now it is just shabby. The carpet on the stairs is threadbare and everywhere feels very tired and really does need refreshing.

Charming old property in a great location for visiting Stratford-upon-Avon – very close to most of the must-see sights (and within walking distance of all the others). Friendly, helpful staff. Close to a multitude of dining options, but not so close as to be disturbed by any of them or their diners.

I’m so pleased to have found this spot and would happily come back. For theatre-goers, it is a quick walk back after the show, and while it is close to the centre of the town, it is very quiet. The rooms are lovely and comfortable — mine looked over the Guildhouse — and staff were all friendly and accommodating. I ate in the restaurant and recommend it as well.

It was within walking distance of the Royal Shakespeare theater and many other local attractions and we enjoyed walking to Shakespeare's birthplace coach station to take a tour of the Cotswolds with Go Cotswolds. Staff work exceptionally helpful! Very quaint! Only drawback was the staircases with luggage.

Good location, good size room. We had to park at the hotel next door. The spiral stairs were crazy steep ( do not bring luggage) no food mid week. We had to open the windo for air and it was right on the street so lots of noise.

Nice place. Shame about the parking !

We had a 3 night stay. Everyone was friendly. We enjoyed our stay. Parking was awkward. We couldn’t stop nearby to unload our bags but a staff member helped to carry things. Parking is a major problem !

Rooms of character

Very comfortable one night stay. This hotel has character in line with the age of the building- do not expect AC or perfectly symmetrical rooms but it is all the better fit this. Any hotel that offers proper milk in a fridge in your room scores highly in my book. We would have welcomed better quality bread ( not a processed supermarket sliced bread) as part of the continental breakfast but the fresh fruit salad and croissant couldn’t be faulted.

A unique building, nicely restored and maintained. Excellent food in the dining room, the continental breakfast was simple but delicious. Dinner was superb. The location is perfect - there is no car park, but I parked in the Bridgeview car park which is a 5 minute walk and it was inexpensive (there is an overnight rate from 1600). 2 minute walk to the RSC theatre, right in the centre of town. My only comment would be on the bed - advertised as king size, barely a double. Pillows could also be much better. Overall, a great place to stay and I would certainly return.
