Elk River Hotel

Elk River Hotel

8/10 Good
"Wasn’t really there much. Room was nice, loved the bed and frame. TV was extremely small and limited selection of what could be watched. Climate control was spot on. My wife and I are hot natured, and we actually got a little cold. Would definitely stay again, but would like to stay in one of the domes. You all will definitely be our go to when we visit. PS: We will be bringing our own coffee. We are picky about our coffee, so no offense intended."

Arete Hostel

Arete Hostel

10/10 Excellent
"The house is beautifully nestled in nature and, while it’s a bit of a drive from the New River Gorge, it’s ideally situated for exploring Summersville Lake. The construction doesn’t always have the most meticulous attention to detail, but what the property lacks in craftsmanship, it more than makes up for in thoughtful design, quality of light, character, and atmosphere. The house strikes a lovely balance between what feels like Nordic-inspired simplicity and warm, eclectic charm. If I had to describe the property in one word, it would be hygge—comfortable, inviting, unfussy, and designed around experience/presence. Array of amenities inclide: a static line, bonfire pit, espresso machine, impressive cooktop, rentable paddleboards, pool table, coin laundry, laundry chutes, and patio spaces. None of these feel particularly ornamental; together, they make the house feel more like a well-considered retreat than simply a place to sleep. We stayed in the suite, which was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully laid out, as was the house as a whole. Ownership was approachable and responsive, which added to the ease and warmth of the stay. I’d recommend the property and would absolutely come back. It’s the kind of place that encourages you to linger a little longer—coffee in hand, somewhere between an adventure and an afternoon with a book."
