"A well maintained, 75 year old American retro hotel run by very kind folks at the front desk. The room was clean and comfortable and I had an assigned parking spot. Hot coffee in the lobby all day was excellent after long hikes in October. Heater in the room was a tad loud but worked great. Excellent location for visiting the nearby parks and monuments and plenty of restaurants / shops are walkable. Yeah it's probably rated one or two stars by whomever however this traveler enjoys staying at a place with character every now and then as opposed to staying at a big, bland chain hotel."

"I lived in Custer 51 years ago and it was a very nice place to stay while we revisited some old sites."

"We stayed two nights in one of the motel rooms and five nights in one of the cabins. Both were cleaned excellently and were very cozy. The cabin had a kitchenette and came stocked with pots and pans, dishware, silverware, and cooking utensils. We ate breakfast and dinner at the Powder House restaurant. We had a great experience dining in for breakfast and placing pickup orders for dinner to eat back in our motel room. All of the staff were really friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend to anyone wanting scenic lodging in the Black Hills!"
