Tamariu is a coastal town near Palafrugell, in the province of Girona. It began as a small fishermen's settlement until, in the beginning of the 20th century, the first houses began to be built. If you’re looking for the ideal place to work on your tan to impress everyone back home, you're in luck, as Tamariu is notable for its for its beautiful beaches where you can enjoy the sun, sand and sea. The main cove is Els Liris, with its thick sand and amazing hundred-year-old barracks. If you prefer a rocky beach, we recommend Aigua Dolça.
Just as you'd expect, the leisure options for your package deals to Tamariu are mostly centred around the sea. You can enjoy scuba diving and rent a kayak to explore the local waters, among many other options. Also, if you visit on 15 August, you can enjoy the Festa Major of Tamariu, the town’s annual celebration of its patron saint. You’ll find traditional habaneras songs being sung, a foam party, concerts and a even a fun game of hunting watermelons and balls in the water.
With all that excitement, you’ll need to make sure you have a decent meal afterwards. Fortunately the local cuisine is fabulous. We recommend trying es niu, a cod dish with boiled egg and potato that the local cork workers used to eat.
If you get tired of spending the day on the beach, you can always head over to Palafrugell to enjoy the tourist attractions there. You won't want to miss the gardens of Cap Roig, the tower of Can Mario or the Cork Museum.
