Awesome sunset and kayaking on the lake!
This place is amazing! Many different hiking trails. Some easy. Some a bit tougher. The “vertical mile challenge trail” is tough for those of us who are out of shape! BRING WATER!!!! Amazing views, chances to spot wildlife, rock climbing (with a permit) and a cute little playground area for the kids. With a reservation you can also camp here too! Check it out if you’re in the area. You will not be disappointed.
Rocky Face Mountain Recreational Area marks an intersection of several histories an narratives of Appalachia. Located in one of the "border" counties of the region, it is technically in the Piedmont, east of the Blue Ridge escarpment in North Carolina. Originally a quarry site, established in the early part of the 1900s, it has also functioned as agricultural land and a labor site for a (now defunct) prison work camp. In 2012, the site opened to the public as a recreational park with hiking trails and a bolted rock face. The scars of this labor history are still visible, even as its current-day uses celebrate Appalachia as a locus of wild beauty and outdoor adventure. #appalachianechoes
