Search for clothes and jewelry in a 700-year-old shopping center, tour ancient churches and climb to the top of a Gothic tower at Kraków’s Main Market Square. This 13th-century plaza is one of the largest medieval squares in Europe. It is surrounded by traditional Flemish houses and is home to some of the city's most important historical buildings.

The National Museum has a vast collection of art and historic artifacts. Stroll around the numerous rooms of the top floor to take in an exhibition dedicated to 20th-century Polish art. Elsewhere in the museum you can browse a 600-year history of decorative arts, with everything from rugs and ceramics to stained glass from the city’s churches. See a display of historical military paraphernalia, including weapons, armor and uniforms from as far back as the 10th century.

Stand beneath the golden dome of the Sigismund Chapel (Kaplica Zygmuntowska) in Wawel Cathedral. The paintings, stuccos and sculptures around you are some of the finest works of Renaissance art in Europe. Investigate the cathedral’s other chapels to view the ornate tombs of almost all of Poland’s past monarchs, and then climb the bell tower to touch the famous Sigismund Bell.
